So, it's the Democrats who want to take your social security and Medicare away?

That’s what both my GOBer brother and a GOBer friend told me in the past 3 days.

I asked them where were they heard this? My friend said he heard it from a well-sourced person on the radio, but wouldn’t say who it was. My brother said he read it in a local republican newspaper in Wyoming.

I have to chuckle because they both know that is propaganda, yet they don’t care and believe only the lies they hear.

I did tell them both that it has the GOBer’s agenda for many years and that the Democrats are not the ones trying to destroy America social security and welfare. The both of them argued for a bit, but in the end? I knew the truth telling them “it started with Reagan and then spread out over the years to all the other GOBers, but now they want all the benefits to go away”. They had nothing else to say and changed the subject.

Funny thing, how they all have talking points, but are not very good at knowing the truth or the facts about what they say.

And they do pay it back (they say). I have no problem with that, but, do they pay it back with interest? I don't know what the policy on that is. But to borrow a trillion for 10 years and just pay back a trillion would bankrupt Social Security.

I could have smacked the shit out of Al Gore for every saying such a stupid fucking thing. A complete lie. Excess SS funds are invested by law in the safest investment vehicle on earth, US treasuries. Because, if the US government fails to pay long term, our SS benefits will be the least of our worries. It's paid back, with interest by the US Treasury. Or should we bury excess SS funds in mason jars out on the south lawn?? Invest in equities? Umm, no.

13. It's mandated in the Social Security law

From the very beginning, when Social Security was created in the 1930s, the SS law required (and still requires--it is unchanged) that the SS trust fund be invested in US Treasury Bonds. In that sense, yes, the government "borrows" from SS. But, US Treasuries are redeemable on demand (that's part of the constitutional full faith and credit requirement), and the SS trust fund each year (or whenever needed) redeems sufficient bonds to cover its payout needs for that year. And, yes, US Treasury Bonds carry interest, which is paid upon redemption. There's nothing pernicious about this. It is perfectly normal. But, for years, Republicans have ranted on about how the Government (pointing fingers at Democrats, but it's really the government in general) somehow "improperly" "borrows" from SS with the implication that it all a big scandal. The scandal is that they get away with this fake story and so many believe them.

Repukes are planning ahead for the day when Social Security and Medicare really DO disappear. In their minds at least. The blame must be carefully laid now for all the Repukes' evil plans.

A major element 'backing' the claim is the effort to secure Medicare the ability to negotiate prices with manufacturers in the same way private insurance companies do. This will certainly reduce the cost of drugs covered by Medicare.

This cost saving is presented as a 'cut in benefits'....

....there are videos ALL OVER CREATION where they are literally SAYING it ie: "rip it out by the roots" etc.

They say: "Oh, that's not true! They didn't say thaaaat! That's just a lie!"

And WHEN (not "if&quot , MAGA/GOP cuts, guts, privatizes or abolishes THEIR and MY (future) social security & medicare, they'll blame DEMOCRATS.

That's their schtick.

And NO amount of video evidence will convince them otherwise. "Oh they're just throwing ideas out there!"

Oh HELL NO they are NOT. They are TELLING EVERYONE what they WILL do if in power. My MAGA relatives are living on SS & Medicare. You'd THINK they'd want to verify their facts. But .... NOPE.

Social Security is very popular and it works. Republicans hate it when Democrats create popular policies.

They would love to destroy it, but they don't want to be blamed for destroying something that is so popular.

I remember the "claim" that somehow, someway "doctors and nurses were paid extra for covid cases and deaths." My response was, how does that even work?! Getting private insurance to just pay can be a herculean effort, much less pay extra for covid!

"It's the government paying them."

You do realize "the guvamunt", the everyday operation portion of it, is run by the Trump administration? He and his cronies are calling the policy shots.

"The deep state" or "Medicaid is paying them."

What? The "deep state" doesn't just go off and make policy that sweeping on their own and Medicaid is run by the states, under basic federal rules.

"They changed the rules."

How? Republicans have controlled at least half of Congress since 2015! Plus, the orange moron would have to sign off on it.

Finally, you just have to give up. Like explaining things to fence posts.

Never argue with them unless you have a bunch of people around who are listening in and might be reachable with a walloping of facts.

If you're one-on-one with a brain dead pillock, then the only proper response is, "Only complete morons believe something so bloody stupid. Congratulations, you're that moron!"

Then refuse to engage with them any further, because who has time to wallow in dishonest filth but stupid people?
