Right-wing Bud Light boycott crumbles as GOP faced loss of major donor
Bud Light's partnership with transgender social media influencer Dylan Mulvaney caused many conservative voices to boycott the beer company, but there is reportedly now a GOP-led push to back off, or risk losing major funding.
The National Republican Congressional Committee initially used the beer beef to raise funds in its latest "anti-woke" campaign, but on Saturday quietly deleted a tweet critical of the beer, whose owner happens to be one of their biggest donors, Anheuser-Busch, according to the Daily Beast's report.
The outlet reported that the NRCC, which backs Republican congressional campaigns, sent out a now-deleted tweet suggesting that Bud Light "tastes light water."
Thanks to Dylan Mulvaney, we can all finally admit that Bud Light tastes like water, the revived tweet says. With our new koozies, you can make sure no one confuses Bud Light with real beer ever again.

I think the boycott is doomed

(62,432 posts)not counting all the local mom and pop breweries.
If I recall it is Budweiser - which was owned by InBev last I heard, Molson-Coors and Miller which was owned by some South African conglomerate. Those corporations own many different labels so it is probably going to be hard to boycott the company's beers.
That reminds me that the largest US owned brewery used to be Samuel Adams. Don't know their politics, but I don't see the right switching to Sam Adams. InBev is European I think, Molson-Coors Canadian and as I mention Miller South African.

(65,111 posts)But, some of the craft beers still out there that go well beyond "Mom & Pop".
Sierra Nevada is a good example. They sell about 500 million gallons of beer each year. (Nearly 890 million six-packs) in all 50 states.
Yeungling & Bell's are other examples, although they're smaller & more regional.
But, the vast majority of beer brewed in the US is from the big 3.

(1,552 posts)There were laws, that made it illegal for a brewery to sell directly to a drinking establishment
You had to have a middle man to do the distribution. The extra slice that took out of the revenue stream made it tough to make a buck for the smaller companies.
America also was divided into distribution regions by the big companies to fend off competition. For decades of my early life Coors was for us a 'western beer' (not really worth traveling west to taste).
In Wisconsin we also had big companies like Pabst, and Miller insisting that their beer shouldn't be sold at a bar that sold beer flavored water from the competitors. The big companies made that politically palatable by providing small town bars with very elaborate, some would say iconic alters to beer, mammoth oak bars and accompanying mirrors, art work, dead stuffed animals, shelves and cabinets. Those things still exist in small town Wisconsin, although the beer monopolies have been broken. A drive along Wisconsin state highways can take you past too many to sample in an afternoon.
Of course we've got all the various lagers and ales the rest of the world has. Wisconsinites mostly come from European beer drinking cultures, and they all aren't German knock offs.
As for me I don't like IPAs that taste like pine needles. So I drink a cask-conditioned Wisconsin quite yeasty beer that uses 2 yeasts one usually for lager production and the other usually for ale, preserved in mild hops called appropriately Spotted Cow, the source of all things good in WI, by a small brewery in New Glarus (southern WI). Today that's called a 'cream beer'. Because the hops is light it doesn't ship well. If you aren't a liquid bread foodie, cask aging is something the great big guys tend to stay away from, although Bud makes beer that is more or less washed over beech-wood chips (not really in a cask). Beech isn't a common species in WI so that's something not done much in WI.

(36,853 posts)Spuds MacKenzie was a fictional dog character created in the 1980s to promote Anheuser-Busch Brewing Companys Bud Light beer. The male character, played by a female bull terrier named Honey Tree Evil Eye, was an instant hit and became a pop-culture icon. Though the advertising campaign ended in 1989, Spuds made one last appearance in a 2017 Super Bowl commercial.

(14,982 posts)are so bizarrely obsessed with the gender, clothing, or sex lives of people they don't even know in real life, mostly) are realizing that virtually all of their next-favorite beers are also made by AB InBev or Molson Coors, who just as "woke" if not moreso.
They will, of course, not draw the correct lesson from this. They should realize that they are a loud insular weirdo minority. Instead they will wrongly conclude that two of the largest beverage companies in the world have a secret ideological social agenda which they are pursuing in opposition to most of their customers' thoughts on the matter -- because that makes a lot of sense for billion dollar transnational corporations to do.

Given that they donate to right wing candidates - I couldn't care less.
I have read right here that many DUers plan to buy some of their product, which just goes to show that a wee bit of research never goes awry.

(49,020 posts)Donald Trump Jr. says boycotts of Bud Light should end, telling his fans on Rumble the companys conservative credentials are solid and the outrage over its partnership with transgender influencer Dylan Mulvaney was unjustified. Bud Light and its parent company Anheuser-Busch have faced a firestorm of controversy from many in their core audience after using Mulvaney in its marketing. We looked into the political giving and lobbying history of Anheuser-Busch. And guess what? They actually support Republicans, said the former first son on Rumble.

(2,200 posts)Gee, what a surprise. Anheuser-Busch supports conservatives so it's now A-OK if they advertise using a trans person. Somebody should tell that to dickhead Tucker Carlson and and his asshole music buddies. Their paychecks may depend on it.
These people revolt me.
The Republican party is out for one thing and one thing only: to destroy Democrats, Progressives and anyone else who doesn't lap up.their fascist agenda.

Imagine dozens of children at the receiving end of that rapid fire. No wonder cops are scared and want to arm teachers, they want no part of that fire power at them.
