In one of the best scenes thus far from season four of HBO’s “Succession,” Logan Roy, the conservative media tycoon played by Brian Cox, unexpectedly joins his four adult children in a karaoke bar to try to salvage a business deal that three of them are subverting. He also says he is there to offer them an apology. (HBO, like CNN, is owned by Warner Bros. Discovery.)

But when the ensuing conversation doesn’t go his way, he unleashes on them, declaring, “You are not serious figures. I love you, but you are not serious people.”

The line is powerful — and may just capture the way President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris are approaching the declared and expected GOP candidates ahead of the 2024 campaign.

For months, it seemed unclear whether Biden would run for reelection. And while he finally confirmed this week that he plans to run, the president said he’s “not prepared to announce it yet.”

1. I guess all that

Flying around Ireland and Presidentinin ain't enough for some people. Election campaigns are the only thing that matters! Circuses all the time. Bread, meh?

2. Biden is doing nothing like "laying low"

He's busier and more energetic than I was in mi 40's.

What the "editorialist" doesn't understand is that refusing to waste your time with completely Unserious people is NOT "laying low"...it's demonstrating that you won't waste your time on ignorant people.

I swear, watching the RETRUMPLICANS tying to govern, is like watching a cat trying to cover its poop on a linoleum floor.

Might be amusing, but it's a waste of fucking time, and the poop is still there.

3. Heard Jen Psaki say it avoids the conflict over what is official and what is campaign related

By not declaring, he has more freedom to continue doing what he has been and using official resources. Avoids conflicts. I may be more clumsy than she was in explaining it.

4. I think there's more to it.

It's fun sitting back and watching repugs beat the hell out of each other. Once they've sufficiently beat each other to a pulp, it will be easier to campaign against the heap of dung that remains.
