This political ad *could* be mistaken for an SNL skit. But it's not. (Kelly Craft for KY Gov).

I was really conflicted about posting this one, mostly because I had to watch it several times just to convince myself it was real and I wasn't going insane...which made me feel even more like I really was going insane!

I also "did my own research", as the kids say, and the ad appears to check out--IOW, it's real...or should I say, the ad itself is real. The contents of the ad are bonkers (and that's putting it mildly).

I hope this is a fringe candidate even by Kentucky standards. Otherwise, this country is in real trouble. Oh, by the way, the "recommended videos" sidebar on YouTube includes a video from the execrable Heritage Foundation titled "Moms React to Woke Children's Books". Heritage is one of the really old-line "think" tanks which has apparently decided in recent years to go fash.

Here's the commercial, which has to be seen to be believed.

... full of nothing but vapid bullshit and predicated upon complete ignorance about what happens in schools. Republicans these days do politics in the same ways that reality shows do entertainment. The dumpster fire gets attention, so it doesn't matter what you throw in there to burn. The attention alone is the point, not the long-term consequences of what they accomplish and not the economic health of the nation

I think she's way over the top for KY. Beshear will be reelected. No doubt.

However, I'm hoping she wins the Republican primary so that Beshear will be re-elected.

In late summer of 2016, one of my neighbors was aghast that I was for Hillary. His response was, "We can't have a woman running the country!" This man was not yet 40 years old. His mindset is common in this area.

At least to me, is her portrayal of the left… purple hair, that sort of thing. The guy with the white hair and pony tail.

Freedom is real scary to some people—like this candidate.

They crave conformity and uniformity so they don’t have to think.

They are to be pitied.

The aging hippie, the "purple-haired lesbian SJW", "woke bureaucrats" ( in the original alt-right-speak they were "woke HR lesbians" ), etc.--all of these are plagiarized from the alt-right world. You used to see this crap on 4Chan, Roosh V's "Return of Kings", etc. back a few years ago. Now it has been polished up a bit, the worst anti-Semitism and overt bigotry turned down, and then it's repackaged for mass consumption. Author/historian David Neiwert has written extensively on this "mainstreaming" of far-right ideas. He refers to people like Trump as "transmitters" due to their ability to shrewdly remove the most toxic aspects of far-right rhetoric and make it more palatable while still retaining most or all of its meaning.
