I find neither of them overly attractive, especially considering the other dating opportunities no doubt available to him.

So it seems he was attracted to them more on an intellectual basis, which to me is rather disturbing.

Both of them might have changed over time, and/or not have revealed their sleazier side until he got to know them better.

I think that, before the huge impact of social media and 15 minutes of fame, these two, and many others like them, would have never seen the light of day.

Unfortunately, with the dumbing down of society and the switch from a more intellectual 'debate' culture (William F. Buckley, for example on the right) to one based on feelings/emotion/religion, these folks are winning (due to the lack of intelligence of their audience, not necessarily their deficiencies). As the former would say, sad.

Sometimes we date people based on who we think they are or because they're fun to be around. But once that first 3-4 months of sexual energy starts to fade you start to actually get to know the person. Which is why, fortunately, we have break ups.
