Let's wait and see what happens.

(17,377 posts)reason they settled. The benefits outweighed the costs. In the case of a jury trial, the benefits did not outweigh the cost in Foxs/ Murdochs estimation.

(17,757 posts)I sounds like Dominion took the money and ran. It was the responsible thing for them to do for their shareholders. Truth, honor or justice doesn't enter into the calculations.

(23,187 posts)It was their business that was destroyed. I hope part of the terms includes FOX having to air admissions that they defamed Dominion in their coverage.
And as of right now there is a second voting machine company pursuing damages against FOX also. Let's see if they settle too. This has got to cost FOX a lot, and may even have a chilling effect on how they might otherwise lie regarding the upcoming 2024 elections.
At least it took them long enough to settle that all kinds of stuff FOX didn't want coming out has already come out.

(56,198 posts)It's highly probable that foxnews would have been happy to pay extra to avoid admitting any wrongdoing
It's also highly probable that dominion, being private and owned by a private equity firm, was happy enough to take major cash rather than hold out for an apology.
It's very common in such circumstances for the parties to agree not to disclose the terms of the settlement. In effect, foxnews likely ageeed to pay extra for dominion to keep quiet about just how much they forked over.

I don't like it either, but that is the system we work under.

(4,557 posts)Would a jury imposed settlement have made them any less likely to lie in the future than a privately negotiated settlement? I'm not sure I follow the logic. Either way Fox writes a big check.

(1,107 posts)and believe me all they acre about are the $$$. Fox will pay any amount of money to keep from testifying in front of a jury, and I can assure you that there is a gag order in this settlement which will prevent Dominion or anyone else from revealing any of the facts of this case.
We the people are screwed once again by this fascist propaganda mouthpiece that will worship any dollar no matter how filthy or degraded.
