Another mistake, another shooting

https://www.cnn.com/2023/04/19/us/texas-cheerleaders-woodlands-elite-shooting/index.html

2 cheerleaders were shot in a Texas supermarket parking lot after one opened the door to the wrong vehicle. A suspect is under arrest

Officers responding just after midnight Tuesday to an H-E-B supermarket parking lot found two people in a vehicle who’d been struck by bullets, police said, citing preliminary reports. One with serious injuries was rushed by helicopter to a hospital and in critical condition, while the other was treated at the scene, the release said.

The latter girl had gotten out of a friend’s car and opened the door to a vehicle she thought was hers, only to find a man sitting in the passenger seat, she said during a livestreamed prayer vigil Tuesday night at her cheer team’s gym, CNN affiliate KTRK reported.

Heather Roth said she was trying to apologize to the man when he got out out of the passenger door.

“He just threw his hands up, and then he pulled out a gun and he just started shooting at all of us,” Roth said, fighting tears.

By the way, the initial charge - "Deadly conduct" is the name for "shooting at people" in Texas:

https://codes.findlaw.com/tx/penal-code/penal-sect-22-05/

Texas Penal Code - PENAL § 22.05. Deadly Conduct

(a)?A person commits an offense if he recklessly engages in conduct that places another in imminent danger of serious bodily injury.

(b)?A person commits an offense if he knowingly discharges a firearm at or in the direction of:

(1)?one or more individuals
; ?or

(2)?a habitation, building, or vehicle and is reckless as to whether the habitation, building, or vehicle is occupied.

(c)?Recklessness and danger are presumed if the actor knowingly pointed a firearm at or in the direction of another whether or not the actor believed the firearm to be loaded.

(d)?For purposes of this section, “building,” “habitation,” and “vehicle” have the meanings assigned those terms by Section 30.01.

(e)?An offense under Subsection (a) is a Class A misdemeanor. ?An offense under Subsection (b) is a felony of the third degree.

...in case anyone is wondering "why didn't they charge him with (something not relevant to Texas law)".

That so many of their compatriots apparently think, "Have gun, will shoot" in the most innocuous of situations?

If they didn't have a gun, they would probably just have yelled at the kid ringing the doorbell, the woman turning around in the drive way, the cheerleader opening the door.

Here, this really does sound like he shot her after it was clear that she had just made a mistake-- and he shot several times.
Guns plus hair-trigger temper... this happens.

Like, what if you have a gun in your bedroom, but you are in the kitchen?

Waddya gonna do? Run outside for your car gun in the glovebox? But what if someone in the backseat needs a gun? Better get a gun back there too.

or knocking on the door or walking by is a threat....
they need guns always at hand. Just in case, you know, a child happens to chase their soccer ball into the yard.

You could be going out to get the mail, and there you are without a gun.

Also, learn to shoot with both hands. You could have a gun holstered on your right, but what happens if they get your right arm first? If you have a gun holstered on BOTH sides, you are much safer.

A Derringer in your boot helps too.

But I keep my third "going out" gun inside my pants.

I'm sure they'll give him a stern talking to. Maybe he'll have to pick up trash on the side of the road for a few hours.
