Republicans dont fear being voted out next election. They keep passing more inhumane, brutal, fascist laws each one worse than the last
We all know thats not a recipie for winning elections.
So by passing such inhumane laws they are getting liberals and the ones they love to flee to safe states. With trans kids its whole families seeking asylum from red state fascism.
They want to control enough states to call a convention of states and thereby change our constitution. They only need to control 34 states. This is what makes florida the entire united states.this is why they try to gum up the elections.gum up enough states they will win them by hook or crook.. than change our constitution.
Then Florida becomes the United States under the constitution.
A convention of states is a convention called by the state legislatures for the purpose of proposing amendments to the Constitution. They are given power to do this under Article V of the Constitution. It is not a constitutional convention. It cannot throw out the Constitution because its authority is derived from the Constitution.
Ever think the idea if you got 1 wish you'd wish for 1000 more wishes?
This is where this could go.

(35,820 posts)Makes 24. Thats where its been for a very long time. The other blue states are never going to go along with it.
You really cant compare RvW to this, its a complete different issue, SCOTUS cant just step in.
rsdsharp
(12,002 posts)if it is ever called, would not be capable of changing the Constitution? Any proposed amendments would still have to be ratified by 3/4ths of the states. They have been trying for years to get the 34 states necessary to call a convention. If the cant get 34 for pie-in-the- sky changes, what are their chances of getting 38 to ratify changes they will actually have to specify?

(35,820 posts)We still have a majority and that majority is going to grow exponentially in the next decade with genz and millennials becoming the largest voting block. And they aint voting for republicans!!

(4,616 posts)Guess I was the only one not surprised when ROE was gutted. We've only been told as soon as R's could take over state houses, pack the federal courts and get a hard right Supreme court they would blow up ROE. That was the plan for over FOURTY YEARS and it certainly wasn't kept a secret.

Let me help you out since you can't find it on your own.
"But exit polls quickly told a different story. While 90 percent of Black women voters supported Joe Biden, along with almost 70 percent of Hispanic women, the available data shows that up to 55 percent of white women voted for Trump. And while that number could change in the coming months, its clear that seemingly no discriminatory policies or hateful speech will stop these voters from supporting Trump, or the next candidate just like him."

There are even links, those are a neat thingy that will take you to to another set of numbers that will give you ALL of the voting numbers. The links are underlined and highlighted in blue!

You just attacked that poster directly and personally. Not cool.
And fyi, it would be "you're" not "your". "Your" implies possession, as in " I disagree with your opinion."
"You're" is a contraction of "you" and "are", as in "You're bragging you have friends who will help you on a thread."

(12,661 posts)Who arre you to cOrrect me on. anything? I don't care what you think when I disagree with someone.
Here YOU are, back 10 days later. Just saying.
You're seriously blaming women for that traitor tosser getting elected, when far more men voted for him?
Pull the other one!

(12,661 posts)Slowly. Where did I blame anybody for anything. I said Woman will win this election for us. Pull this?

(4,616 posts)this 'ride" ends is to take the House with a 20+ majority, take the Senate with a filibuster proof majority AND take the White House. As well as take several State Houses. And even then, the Supreme Court and all those federal judges STILL have lifetime appointments.

(23,229 posts)A CC isnt going to happen.
Any reversals of SCOTUS decisions will be via legislation combined with court expansion and court packing, not amending the constitution.
And thats reality.

(4,741 posts)By not voting for the changes proposed.
For pity's sake, they'd be lucky to get 34 to call for the convention in the first place. There are 15 hard core blue states that will never vote for such a thing:
California
Colorado
Connecticut
Delaware
Hawaii
Illinois
Maryland
Massachusetts
Minnesota
New Jersey
New Mexico
Oregon
Rhode Island
Vermont
Washington
That's not counting purple-blue states that would never go for it, like Maine, Nevada and Virginia; all three are unlikely to have the votes in their own state assemblies for it. Plus, some of the founding states that are truer purple, like New Hampshire and Pennsylvania, would never go against that original colonies history.
That's 20 states that will not support something so stupid and anti-American; hence, why it's ridiculous to lose the plot on what has always been an urban myth.

(2,040 posts)A convention is the only peaceful and civilized option left. Otherwise it is gonna be the hard way which I can't get into.
