JACKSONVILLE MAYOR: Davis (R), Deegan (D) trade barbs over crime, JEA during televised debate
Trading barbs throughout the night, the two candidates for Jacksonville mayor shared a stage one-on-one for the first time Thursday night, distinguishing themselves on their approaches to crime and their visions for the future of city politics.
Democrat Donna Deegan continued to speak on her campaign of change and against her opponents connections to the current mayors office.
Republican Daniel Davis stuck to his tough on crime platform and related a number of questions back to the citys rising crime rate.
Both candidates said they wanted to add police officers to the department, but they differed on where the funding would originate.
Davis, who thanked Sheriff T.K. Waters for his endorsement and mentioned it throughout the night, said he wanted to add 200 officers and restart anti-crime initiatives like the Jacksonville Journey.
