Your friendly reminder that the two worst Supreme Court Justices aren't Trump appointees.

Last edited Sun Apr 23, 2023, 09:28 AM - Edit history (1)

I've been guilty of softening my opinion of W in recent years because of the contrast to Trump, despite the fact that I joined DU specifically because of my outrage of Shrub and his administration. And Bush Sr. looks downright Washingtonian compared to Trump.

But as awful as Gorusch, Kavanaugh, and Barrett are, and they are genuinely vile, none of them hold a candle to the awfulness that is Thomas and Alito - proving once again that there are no "good Republicans."

And Rehnquist was damn near as bad, though not as overtly arrogant and intemperate as Alito. Oddly, of the new ones Kavanaugh is probably the least bad (not that he's OK) and might be an occasional swing vote along with Roberts. But Alito and Thomas are consistently terrible, and Alito in particular seems to be getting even worse. Even Scalia's opinions had some internal logic, but Alito's are just becoming unhinged right-wing rants. Michelle Goldberg described him as "a Fox News grandpa."

...encourage him to wave his junk around in public. Whenever you compare "old conservatives" to the current crop, that's an important thing to factor in. In their day, there would be consequences that would set back their goals. The entiare point of the Conservative Movement was to strip away those consequences.

their perceived enemies and tormentors. It seems this way for many Republicans. Like payback for all those lonely teenage and college era nights when they weren't in the cool crowd.

And many 'purists' told the collective left to vote for Nader/Stein because there was no difference.

I so wish those of us who knew better, were wrong.

“I like beer” Brett especially - he’s still learning the ropes but give him time. Gorsuch has already shown contempt for workers. I have a tiny hope that Goody Barrett will see the light, but I’m not going to hold my breath.

let's remember how Alito got the job...Sandra Day O'Conner retired..Roberts and Alito were on the short list..GWB nominated Roberts...Chief Justice Rehnquist died and Roberts nomination went from Associate Justice to Chief Justice.. but O'Conners' seat was still vacant and Bush tapped Alito to fill the vacancy...given that Alito is a grudge-holding detestable cretin, I am convinced Alito secretly despises Roberts and has no problem fucking with Roberts any way he can (not that Roberts doesn't deserve it)...the reason: if he, Sam, had been nominated instead of Roberts his nomination would have been upgraded to Chief Justice and Roberts would still be Associate Justice Roberts...

Trump is a comic book style villain. Almost like comic relief in the heavy drama of history. The Thomas and Alito foolishness is what happens when voters forget just how horrible conservatism can get when its given twelve consecutive years in the Whitehouse. Also a media which forgot its purpose amid the obscene salaries talking heads began to prerequisitely command and the low bar example of the incipient Fox news.

in 1957 when we moved to NC, schools and most everything else was still segregated. With the exception of the Marine Air Station at Cherry Point where we lived, "white only" and "colored only" signs were everywhere.

My friend who lived next door went to a different school.. This made a huge impact on me.

And Alito has the nerve to slam the Biden administration in his dissent. Infuriating asshole.

though to be fair they would have to be truly horrible to get there, but we don't really know what Gorsuch, Kavanaugh, or Barrett are going to be yet. It is very early in their careers.
