(23,727 posts)link Bev54 posted below. When the entire audience was laughing or applauding the gal on his left never once
even cracked a small smile. She was writing notes down when he said certain things I think to fact check
him. The guy on the right laughed & clapped with the crowd all the time. Those 2 never looked at each other
and at the very end when the woman was getting up to leave she didn't even look at him, I doubt they were
a couple.

(539 posts)They have had over a dozen generations to change. Some of their descendants (Congregationalists, Unitarians) are on the progressive side of Christianity, and I doubt if many became RW Christians.
There is way too much broad brush condemnation in these comments.
Virginia wasn't founded by religious extremists. They were there to make money and exploit what they saw a resources ripe for the taking. The culture that crept across the Tidewater region emulated England's landed gentry system. It wasn't remotely egalitarian.
Meanwhile, only 37 of the Mayflower's 102 passengers were Pilgrims. The rest wanted new lives in America but not for religious reasons.
Also, some of the characteristics of New England culture which seem most stereotypically American -- focus on grassroots self-governance, importance of quality public education, disdain for wealth-based hierarchy and royalty -- are a product of the region's religious founders.

(82,383 posts)It is only in the last century that it has had legal rules attached to it. Borders are artificial, but they are accepted by the world at large. Certainly we aren't going along with the russians on that.
We should have better laws, but what he's saying is just emotional. People don't have the right to live in the US legally due to their having more indigenous blood than many American citizens do.
