I think I solved the riddle of what it takes to become a member of today's Republican party.
1. Remove your capacity for empathy.
2. Never engage in critical thinking.
As long as a person becomes indifferent to anyone else's suffering or circumstances and avoids facts, research and healthy skepticism they'll fit right in with the MAGA cult.
Add in a touch of greed and they'll welcome you with open arms.

The cruelty and bigotry probably is a product of their upbringing though.

(4,420 posts)Within the family unit(s), never underestimate the power of unresolved trauma, perceived abandonment, unfulfilled expectations, and ultimately the lure of saintly redemption in an eternal afterlife combining in a toxic stew, but selectively fed to and projected onto new generations. The GQP and RWXtian nutjobs have filled their private mind vaults to hide their requirements for ever more power, control, and wealth; that's the part that has trickled down--more, more, and still never enough!
