"SNIP........

“House GOP leaders are waving off calls from rank-and-file Republicans for changes to their debt-limit proposal,” Politico reports.

“Instead, they’re plowing ahead toward a floor vote this week, daring detractors to vote against it.”

..........SNIP"

Applegrove:

I pray the hedge funds and private equity are not calling for a stock market crash so they can gobble up small and medium sized businesses in distress. They are so desperate to find new ventures because there is too much money chasing too few opportunities. Why they have gone into real estate and warped the market. Why they are about to move into daycare. The stock market is overpriced, bond prices are coming down. There is nowhere to invest. But if the US defaulted on its debts 'Shake & Bake, Baby. Shake and Bake' Ka ching! Ka ching!

I’m a retired federal enployee.

All my life I’ve seen these right-wing idiots play with the debt ceiling. This is the time they are going to screw it up and default.
You’ll see. It’s not going to be nice, and it’s going to be directly on them.

I suspect that they DO want a crash. It would be horrendous, with ripple or wave consequences around the world. They are determined to bring it all down.

The Biden Administration is pushing back, showing drastic cuts to the VA and safety inspections.

They put their proposal out there. Now let's show the American voters exactly what they will get by letting these lunatics have power.

All they need to see is “Stock market bad!” and that’s it. They don’t even know how the stock market works, or, how it doesn’t actually benefit them in any way. That’s why Americans are suckers for
Capitalist propaganda.

I am retired military and never voted for a Republican in my entire life. But alot of the vets are GQP voters. I went to a Veteran's fair last month and I was surprised so many of the Vets I met there were liberal. Many of them are also sitting on the fence.

But as soon as the GQP starts taking away benefits like free counseling, cuts in military retirement pay and cuts in disability pay (Which Trump did do to Veterans with less than 50% disability in order to give the filthy rich a tax giveaway, but Biden restored them.) those vets are going to turn on the GQP. We have some very strong lobbying groups that won't stay quiet for very long.

Veterans are not the borg. The actives aren't the borg, either. Plenty of them are not rw thugs.

Again, SHAME ON YOU for saying something so divorced from reality, and so outright bigoted, especially given the many veterans *right here on DU* who are anything but rw thugs.

It’s a true statement. It’s like saying Floridians, as a block, vote R. That too is a true statement. The fact I’m a Floridian, as are other DUers, doesn’t change that fact. I have to wonder if you’ve spent any time at any VFW.

The R controlled House can pass its bill. Once it passes to the D controlled-ish Senate the bill can be revised and then it goes back to the R controlled House for final vote.

If this is the case, what's to stop Schumer from stripping out all the bad bits and sending back in essence a clean debt limit bill back to the House?

Or am I being naive here?

They always do - once the public rightfully blames the GQP for yet another budget related political stunt - they will beg to sign any deal they are offered. Same as it ever was.
