Until the Dems have a majority without him, Manchin is essential. Manchin remarkably wins re-election as a Democrat in West Virginia. There is not another Democrat who can win a statewide election in West Virginia. Even if the Dems win a majority in the Senate in the next election, better a barely Democrat than a solid MAGAt in the seat.

Without a HUGE nationwide Democratic turnout, I don't see how it is possible for the Democrats to continue to control the US Senate...
Montana and Ohio are also in danger in 2024...

On the other hand, I don't see how it will be possible for Republicans to continue to control the House,
with the narrow margin and all their stupid bullshit...

I think the Democrats will win at least 4 seats in New York, which they should have won,
and other seats elsewhere--- giving them the majority in 2024.

If he’s threatening to sabotage Biden’s presidency, then 2025 isn’t soon enough for him to retire from the senate.

The other saboteur from AZ will also be gone in 2025, replaced with Senator Gallego.

If we don’t keep the senate in 2024, we can take comfort in the fact that the next time Dems have a majority, it will be without these two. If Dems do keep the senate in 2024, it will also be without those two.

I’d call that a win/win.

He's making noise for the voters back home.

The two leading candidates are current governor Jim Justice, coal baron, who, much like TFG, doesn't like to pay his bills or employees; and current congressman Alex Mooney, who's under investigation for accepting gifts and trips and for using his staff for personal and family matters. Mooney already has endorsements from Ted Cruz and Rand Paul.

So be careful wishing that Manchin would walk off that short pier. You may get your wish and find his replacement will make Tommy Tuberville look brilliant and make Josh Hawley look patriotic.

I'd rather cut ties with Manchin and put all of our efforts into getting Gallego to take over for Sinema and securing all other Democratic seats in 2024. With a Biden win, that would mean we still maintain control over the Senate -- and in a much better position than we are today with the constant threat of Sinema/Manchin knifing us in the back.

He has been a solid vote for the Democratic leadership in the Senate.

I think that gets forgotten around here.

With the Senate as tight as it is, and virtually no pick-ups looking likely for us in 2024 (along with some very tough seats that we need to hold), I'd love to see Joe Manchin get reelected as a Democrat in W Virginia.

Could be all the difference between a Democratic minority and a Democratic majority. I strongly prefer the latter scenario.

DU "group-think" strikes me a very non-strategic on this point.

A repeal of the IRA would never pass the Senate, let alone survive a sure presidential veto.

He is just so fucking lazy.

He could actually get out and work his ass off to show West Virginia voters how much they have benefited from Democratic policies, but it's much easier to throw up your hand and say; you could "never punch through the racism and misogyny".

The part of leadership that Manchin and his ilk, on both sides of the aisle forget, is LEADERSHIP.

It's much easier to go with the flow. Why, if 60% of your constituents want to hang Mike Pence, why waste your time trying to change minds? Just go get a rope.

Good fucking riddance to him.

If he wanted to win WV he'd come out as a strong Dem, embrace Biden and the good things that have been accomplished. Things he freaking voted for. God it wasn't that long ago that WV was solidly Dem. Trying to win re election by having it both ways never works. At least he'd go down honorably.
