Whatever she wishes to be called is fine with me, but I'll defer to her wishes rather than the wishes of others.

Same thing with how proprietary she wants go be about those titles, as long as her wishes are equal or more accommodating (rather than more restrictive) than precedent.

Would you accept some referring to Trump as POTUS? I would reply that at any specific time there is only one POTUS, currently it is Joe Biden.

Has she weighed in on the matter? Because, again, I would defer to her wishes if I knew what they were -- as would be the polite thing to do. But I don't know, yet, so I'm not offended, yet.

The POTUS vs FLOTUS analogy doesn't quite hold, because while there is indeed an "Office of the First Lady" within the "White House Office" within the "Executive Office of the President of the United States" the FLOTUS isn't an office or role recognized by the Constitution or carrying any meaningful legal weight -- unlike the POTUS. There is no dangerous consequence to some dumbass misusing the title, it is just an issue of niceties. And as with issues of niceties in general, I will not get offended on other people's behalf if they don't want others getting offended on their behalf. What does she want?

Especially in the black community. She is and always will be my Forever FLOTUS. That does not take anything away from Dr. Biden.

Good luck trying to convince black folks to stop using it.

Basically, it has to do with whether an office is solitary or multiple at a single point in time. So there is only one president at a time, i.e. only one person is entitled to the office at a time, but there are lots of senators, so that office can "accommodate" more than one claimant at once. On the other hand, the more specific "Senator from Virginia" can only refer to two office holders at once, so anyone else who held the office previously has to be contented with "former Senator," or better yet, Ms or Mr.
