Ok, kids, this isn't about a conspiracy, but it's crazy anyway, so put on your tinfoil hats.
Putin was KGB for many years, which means he was devious as hell in addition to being an asshole. And now he's the president of Russia. He has kept this war going for over a year in spite of tremendous losses, and now even Prigozhin is pissed off at him because of his own losses. Putin has replaced a number of generals and other senior officers, and a bunch have been killed in combat. The Russians have recruited from prisons, and now, IIRC, they're talking a general draft.
So, thinking back to the "cleansings" that Lenin and Stalin did in the country, I said to myself, what if that's what Putin is doing, sending people out to get killed by others so "it doesn't look" like he's the one doing it? According to reports, training is almost nonexistent, supplies are awful, ammo is either depleted or being withheld, and front-line soldiers are shot if they try to retreat.
I know it doesn't make sense (and I know what I'm setting myself up for ), but in this day and age so many things don't.

(2,496 posts)defenestration. And most of the recruits in his war are just random Russians, many of whom probably supported him before he sent them off to die. And hes paid a huge price for this cleansing by losing much of his oil and gas revenue. And now the western alliance wants to hang him for war crimes. If he stuck to poison and windows the rest of the world would look away and continue to do business.

(86,832 posts)You could be on to something regarding a sort of purge thing. A lot of the "recruits" came from the hinter regions, ethnic groups that are a variety of peoples. They are questioning the rationale.
The convicts that were recruited are at the end of their contracts, many of them, are returning home and causing problems there. And telling the truth about the war.
It's kind of fluid but looking worse for pootin by the day so maybe there is something to his maniacal drive to send so many to their deaths, there's no rationale that is acceptable for this.

(5,502 posts)The biggest surprise in the Ukraine war is how bad the Russian military has turned out to be. If Putin wasn't sitting on a pile of nukes (that may or may not be functional) I think NATO would have quickly ended this war. But the nukes are the great unknown.
But what we do know is that Russian's military sucks.
