Sad-Another shooting in my Hometown

I was born, raised, and still live in a small town near an equally small city in Western New York State. Though it is no longer a farm, I still live on the property that used to be my grandfather's farm.

Growing up there was virtually no crime except the occasional petty larceny, and an occasional drug bust at a seedy local bar. Local law enforcement mostly spent their days writing traffic tickets and going after drunk drivers.

There was a muder case were a man killed his wife in a particularly gruesome manner in a nearby town, many years ago, but homicides were extremely rare up until the past few years.

Now within a couple of months we have had two incidents where suspects pulled guns on the police. The body camera footage on the first one showed the officers asking the guy repeatedly to put down the gun. Instead he pointed it directly at them and a police officer and a deputy sherriff then fired on him. He didn't survive. No one even knew what the guy was doing here. He was driving through our county randomly firing out his car window. On searching his car they found he had several different fire arms. Upon investigation authorities found he was from out of state and had gone to Syracuse NY to apply for work but was turned down.

There was another incident today. Again a man confronted the police. This time the officers told the guy to drop his weapon, they even tazed him to give him a chance, and instead he tried to shoot at them. They shot back. The suspect was taken to a major city e.r. alive, but no word on his condition.

It's just sad & scary to think that this is where we are all at now. I have been on disability for a number of years now, and don't get out much anymore, and given what's going on, I am grateful for that.
