In response to a bill sponsored by Utah State Sen. Todd Weiler requiring porn websites to verify the age of visitors, pornhub said:
As you may know, your elected officials in Utah are requiring us to verify your age before allowing you access to our website, a statement from Pornhub and an accompanying SFW (suitable-for-work) video featuring adult performer Cherie DeVille says.
While safety and compliance are at the forefront of our mission, giving your ID card every time you want to visit an adult platform is not the most effective solution for protecting our users, and in fact, will put children and your privacy at risk, the company says.
The statement adds that, without proper enforcement, underage users could be driven to other, less reputable sites that dont have the same standards. The most effective solution, the company contends, is to identify users by their device and allow access to age-restricted materials and websites based on that identification.
Until a real solution is offered, we have made the difficult decision to completely disable access to our website in Utah, the statement says. Please contact your representatives before it is too late and demand device-based verification solutions that make the internet safer while also respecting your privacy.
The state senator received angry phone calls.
BTW, such geofencing is arguably easy to bypass.

I do think more needs to be done to confirm people's ages accessing the stuff. Unless every device a kid has access to has parental controls, anyone can just go to pronhub (spelled right) or xnxx and readily view very hardcore stuff. Talking BDSM and Fetish and ATM and ... anything, really.
16 and above, regular sex stuff, maybe not a huge deal. But it's not good for kids to watch stuff that's at top scales of perversion IMHO. But I guarantee you many, many do so because laws are lax.

(7,319 posts)That might put a tiny dent into Pornhub's earnings. But then again, some politicians may get screwed over this and some, perhaps, will have to come out of the closet.

(23,832 posts)I'm old enough to remember a time when Conservatives in America were worried about government over reach. Now they're regularly passing laws that make decisions for people on what they can watch, what they can read, what they can wear, and which bathroom they can use. And Republicans don't think parents are capable of policing what their children consume on line, so they want to parent for them too.

Without "the hub" it's just a stub.
