Adams township is in MI and TFG got 80% of the vote there in 2020 but the locals grew tired of the antics of the election deniers.
The candidate for clerk who won decisively ran on a campaign promise to make township board meetings boring again .
"ADAMS TWP. Voters in Adams Township turned out in force Tuesday, May 2, to weigh in on a recall bid against the township supervisor and clerk, who gained national media attention over election integrity concerns since October 2021.
Challengers Randy Johnson and Suzy Roberts won decisive victories against Supervisor Mark Nichols and Clerk Stephanie Scott, respectively, according to unofficial election results. "

(13,538 posts)I see more and more former trump voters finally getting fed up. Maybe there's a line for some & they can add up

(170,285 posts)but the 2 who replaced the ones recalled, are listed as registered (I). Area election results here (they didn't have this election's tallies up yet but the party registrations were there - have to scroll down the list) - https://www.wilx.com/politics/election-results/
Mark Nichols (R)* | 0 | 0%
Randy Johnson (I) | 0 | 0%
Adams Township Recall Clerk Hillsdale
Stephanie Scott (R)* | 0 | 0%
Suzy Roberts (I) | 0 | 0%
Seems that places like this where you originally had 80+% 45 voters, that non-loon Rs could conceivably become (I)s and perhaps eventually caucus with any Democrats there. Sometimes in MAGat areas, the appearance of a (D) causes an automatic recoil and a complete pass by any conservative-leaning or non-affiliated/non-paying attention voters, whereas an (I) might be a good cover for (D)s to attract some votes.

(170,285 posts)but (R)s who were anti-45, but chose to run as (I) to distinguish themselves from the loons and potentially pick up some like-minded (R)s, non-affiliated voters, and even some (D) voters who are willing to vote for the "least harmful" on the ballot.
The one thing about (R)s is that they may ignore the most crazy of their party but will still insist on voting (R) for everything else. It's been difficult to get them to claw away from a party that has gone far far down the rabbit hole.

(170,285 posts)I know the OP article actually had the results but I had found that news site that actually listed the party affiliations and they hadn't uploaded that particular election's results yet at my original post time, despite having the other results up. I guess they did the "special elections" last.

(23,727 posts)"the appearance of a (D) causes an automatic recoil and a complete pass" Seems RW media has been successful
in getting people to hate other people simply because they have a "D" behind their name.

(170,285 posts)I think it's a Pavlovian reaction.
Case in point is that they dismiss the fact that 45 was a Democrat at one time whose own eldest daughter was (at one time) besties with Chelsea Clinton.

Most of it, he spent as a RW thug, either as an open R, or as a Reform Party loon (same thing, in reality).
I think he was a D for at most 5 years in the 2000s, and you can bet it was for self-serving reasons, not any kind of actual political conviction. I'd guess even that dolt picked up on how the state was turning solid blue. He hoped pretending to be one of them would get him business favors.

(170,285 posts)The goal for over 5 decades, being to cozy up to mayors there (eventually making an infamous one his personal lawyer), so they looked the other way while he committed crime after crime after crime.
And people are seeing why there was a hesitation to charge him because they would end up going down the rabbit hole with a blizzard of suits, counter-suits, appeals and other nonsense.

(17,635 posts)can we get rid of my know-nothing rep, Lisa McClain whose first vote after being sworn in was to not certify President Biden's election? While we're at it, we need to toss that creep, Lucido (prosecutor) out of office for his sexual harassment of female staffers. This is in northern Macomb County.

(71,980 posts)Isn't that the truth? The GOP ensconced her for one reason only - she calls herself an "ultra-Catholic". In other words, someone who wants to force her anti-choice stance on other women.

(17,539 posts)is pitting the crazy vs not crazy. Currently the crazy have a 5-4 majority. This is a heavily R area where Ds have little chance to win. We have closed primaries in PA, but if the not crazy candidates cross-filed, they'll get my vote.
The not crazy 5 are running a united front campaign. Lots of big glossy signs and mailers. I have the sense voters are fed up with current majority. We'll see. Primary is 5/16.
