A couple of weeks ago, I was watching video of people fighting on the street in Washington. A group of Trump guys surrounded an Antifa kid and started pounding the living shit out of him. It was three against one, at least. Jumping a guy like that is dishonorable obviously. Its not how white men fight. Yet suddenly I found myself rooting for the mob against the man, hoping theyd hit him harder, kill him. I really wanted them to hurt the kid. I could taste it. Then somewhere deep in my brain, an alarm went off: this isnt good for me. Im becoming something I dont want to be. The Antifa creep is a human being. Much as I despise what he says and does, much as Im sure Id hate him personally if I knew him, I shouldnt gloat over his suffering. I should be bothered by it. I should remember that somewhere somebody probably loves this kid, and would be crushed if he was killed. If I dont care about those things, if I reduce people to their politics, how am I better than he is?
For years, Mr. Carlson espoused views on his show that amplified the ideology of white nationalism. But the text message revealed more about his views on racial superiority.
The text alarmed the Fox board, which saw the message a day before Fox was set to defend itself against Dominion Voting Systems before a jury. The board grew concerned that the message could become public at trial when Mr. Carlson was on the stand, creating a sensational and damaging moment that would raise broader questions about the company.

(55,351 posts)He's said worse on air many times, imo, and there were no consequences. It makes no sense to me. I still think there is something much worse that has yet to come out that was the impetus for the firing.

(42,660 posts)...into the craven, dangerous nature of his personality. This is a person who can never be interrogated on a witness stand as a representative of Fox News. So they fired him.

(55,351 posts)live and on air. If this was the catalyst why did Fox not just settle and keep their top guy on the air instead of settling AND firing him when there was no court case to demand his testimony.
There is the Smartmatic case but this is in it's early stages and it will probably be years before it gets close to any jury, if at all, so I don't see that as being the impetus either.

(55,351 posts)clips from his show, that showed, in clear terms, his deeply disturbed mindset. It doesn't take a text to bring that to the fore, imo, it only adds to what is already there.

(578 posts)Racist, degenerate, white supremacist crap like this.
It's no different than what he's been spewing every night.

private texts that worried management, but I think it was texts criticizing management that was a more important factor.

(55,351 posts)court case that was the straw that broke the camel's back and Fox did a cost/benefit analysis on whether to keep him or not and it would cost them more than it would be of benefit.
I do think Fox is deliberately leaking the texts to put that as the catalyst instead of what I think still remains to be made public and the main reason he was fired. Call me suspicious and cynical, lol.

(9,842 posts)Maybe that text was among his ugly texts, but this is just republicans being republicans. This goes on all day every day, with MTG saying all democrats are pedophiles and murderers and should be executed. This is NOTHING to republicans, and I KNOW this isn't what got Fucker Carlson fired.

(5,149 posts)He said this in a text. Does he really believe that "Antifa" is an organization? I truly thought these guys saved that shit for the Jethroes.
Assuming he does believe in an entity called "Antifa," how could he tell this kid was one of them (us)? A secret code ring?

(38,525 posts)Picture the kind of crusty Anarchist kid who might throw a Molotov cocktail at the Federal building in Portland.
That's my guess for where the video he's referencing was probably filmed. There literally were street battles between "Antifa kids" and Proud Boy/Patriot Prayer goons who'd come into town from Vancouver WA or similar places provoking fights.
