(34,908 posts)Or, slaughterhouses, if they're not so lucky. Where I live, breeding and training race horses and show horses is a big thing. I used to love watching the racing. The more I have learned about it over the years, the less enthralled I have gotten about it. I will no longer watch it.

(13,283 posts)Royals are just bobbing heads on the gaudy expensive dolls mounted on the dashboard of the pimped-out Cadillac of colonization.
They may be the most conspicuous and flashy feature of the car, but they certainly don't drive it.

(130,516 posts)I mean, why doesn't the rest of the world do things they way we do, with our totally free and unrestricted elections, and our rational two-party system in which all of our elected officials on both sides are smart and sane, and our safe schools and our incorruptible Supreme Court and...
oh, wait...

(130,516 posts)They no longer have the power to block revenue bills, and their ability to reject other types of bills supported by a majority of the House of Commons is limited and rarely occurs. If a significant majority of Commons supported abolishing the monarchy it's doubtful that Lords could or would prevent it. I think over time the monarchy will not be completely abolished, but will be diminished and become more like the monarchies of the Scandinavian countries - involving completely ceremonial duties and living relatively normal and less public lives.

This is a toothless monarchy which gives Britain an air of pomp and circumstance. Who doesn't like to watch a spectacle?
I like the former prince's land trust a lot, though.

(12,744 posts)Did you actually read it? Perhaps you can point to where I complained about people making sanctimounious posts.
I asked when people would switch to complaining about horseracing.
But you seem to be taking that awfully personal for not even understanding what was written.

Got it. Keep that outrage directed at people who have nothing to do with it.
MerryBlooms
(12,248 posts)Have let it go. The horses have been dying all week, 7 now in total so far. The rest of the Crown races should be postponed until a full investigation has been done.
In my honest opinion, horse racing should be ended entirely.

(5,410 posts)I do not follow the horse-race sport very closely,
but it seems like they killed a lot of race-horses very quickly...
I read some articles about it, but I did not understand the "terms" they used...
I understand euthanizing a horse with a "broken leg",
but not shooting one that had a "bruise"...
wtf

(54,404 posts)I also do not care (in fact I am glad to see such sentiment) if US- only citizens also post against all monarchies, the UK included, as the US was founded via fighting a war to get out from under the yoke of the British Crown.
