Im older person and ive in Australia. The only online discussion iv ever done was once for ABC Australia. So this online commentary is a 2nd time occurance.
I read/watch World/Local/US news constanty now I am retired. I spent 2 1/2 on the cheap years travelling around world and 1 yr of that I drove by myself around US for a year. So I have a special affinity to US and am very well aware that the world needs USA to kp its democracy. When I was younger I was involved in protests, marches etc. I care about democracy, environment and promoting public priority government parties.
For Dems to get in is hard due to Repubs cheating style. I get shocked regularly by their new tactics and worried when it migrates to Aust. Only way US will get regular repeated good public service bills is in Dems getting a 60% vote Government. Then I wld suggest to make that a 55% and add to your Supreme Court or get a Watchdog for it asap.
To get public on board at Elections maybe
1. use hard hitting slogans and images & messages that transmit what Dems have done so far for environment, infrastructure, public service etc. under remarkably difficult circumstances
2. hard hitting message about other countries lack of mass shooting due to lack of guns whilst acknowledginge US history of gun rights within reason (statistics map images etc)
3. hard hitting message about multiple other countries that care for lower & middle class and how it benefits everyone (strong safety nets, health care, less crime, happier communities)
4. hard hitting messages about how Repubs are completely off the rails as a Political Party (their images, messages, lack of policy, use world comparisons etc)
5. Emphasise difference between the 2 parties. Use contrast and compare on debt, crime, worker rights, message, bills passed, corruption, positive message vs fearmongering. Use Statistics, history maps. Kp each simple but use many formats, multiple times.
6. Focus on public rights, next generation, care of vulnerable. A good community has best practice for those less well off, strong middle class as well as those who are gifted. Messages such as "What would your children want/need" Other Countries have less warfare guns and that equates to less violence. Other workers get 4 wks annual leave, sick live, parent leave and are happier. Less suicides, Less public purse of fixing people or things as people and things arent broken. etc etc
7. Ultimately US PUBLIC Education (and some PUBLIC infrastructure) is a major must to protect restore your public awareness, knowledge and expections of their public and private rights. Bring in messages about the right for all citizens to be well education, to live free of hunger, home/health insecurity and in an environment that is put 1st. Clean water, Clean air, Safe Food Safe places, Safe Roads, Great protectyed Public Parks etc.. Use that as your slogans. List what Repubs want to take away. List what Dems have achieved. What their policies are. Educate Educate Educate. Large Images. Large Maps Large Stats
As far as Supreme Court - If Dems can finally get 60% vote in House & Senate then consider who is involved in power manipulation on the far right that dont have such high (DOJ) legal concerns/protections. The peripheral peoplevaround your judges who act against public good. Again public messaging about corruption at all levels is important. Repubs know how to infiltrate your communities at all levels. Those who care abour Government and Democracy must do likewise. Schools Door to Door Recreation Groups etc.
I get fed up with "what aboutism" No political party or type of Public Rule is perfect. Democracy is best we have and worth striving for. I appreciate when both sides are fairly reported on, which is rare, but fact is it is a one way trip if we allow a Political Party to go so far down the path of Dictatorship rule that there is no way back. Only way to prevent that is Public Pressure before it is too late. Right wing/Trumpism/Repubs seem to be only in it for racist, sexist, wealth orientated backward focused reasons. Dirty tactics/Lies are their norm which is hard to fight. Look how gun violence of preschoolers dont even cloud their 'win it at all' costs drive. I dont want Dems (or our Labor Party here in Aust) to fully embrace any of that (eg fake electors, voter intimidation, straw candidates, misleading voter contact, judge manipulation, obstructing justice, gerrymandering, media fearmongering etc.
However hard hitting, graphic maps/stats, next generation focus, world comparison, common sense, election. YOUR family messages can only help surely. Public marches, local district involvement. Exposing over and over what Repubs seem to want their community to be with stories, images etc. Show/Compare the Future Dem/Future Repub community differences. Use AI if need be. Do it at a small and high level coverage Groups, Use libraries, Shopping Centres, Rural districts. Esp Rural Districts as US vote is slanted in their favour. Be tactical.
Only way the world gets to keep majority Democracy is local, national and especially (right now) US public pressure and best practice hard hitting strategic massive now push ever Democratic fan base /power base on the streets and in front of faces quality sensible common sense grass roots messaging.
We dont have daily mass shootings here. Why> Less Guns. Use that! Look at State by State differences. Use Political Party histories. Guaranteed it'll be in Dems favour. We have free health care here. We have financial safety nets here. Public Schools are everywhere. Good bridges, roads etc. Safe streets/Houses/Businesses are the norm. We have majority trust here. & now we have an almost wall to wall Public/Worker priority Political Party here as well. We dealt with Cvid really well where I live. People trusted science and medicine, Our Labor Paty stamped down any anti-science/anti public ownership/anti worker/anti diversity/anti fairness message very well with truth statistics and public backing. Many other countries have similar best public good practice.Many I have visited. Many I have studied.
I like our form of Government. Less focus on leadership individuals and more trust that the Government and Experts can assign judges etc. Less and Shorter elections too. Not perfect but perfect enough to improve. There is a referendum coming up on the right for 1st Citizen's Voice. Our Government has promised a stronger Government Integrity Watchdog. My family have lived well here. Started their own business, felt safe and I was a single parent for most of their lives. I have been able to study at University and my University Costs were easily paid off.
I loved North American too. Especially its magificent scenery. I travelled tens of thousands of miles. I want USA to thrive in all its wonder and diversity. These are just ideas so please dont respond too harshly as I doubt I will be brave enough to do this again. I did this whilst ill with an awful bug as well, so fuzzy vision. But I want you all to know many in the World care. And we need your Democracy to survive these Right Wing Anti Democracy Baseline Power Corrupt tactics. When I got home after my travels, I noticed our Liberal Party here had started to copy your Repub election strategies. Last few years, since Trump, theres been an increase in racism, sexism, political malpractice and violence. Worse public/Governemt behavious can easily migrate. I think that has happened worldwide. Trump did a lot of damage beyond your borders and we are watching and hoping. Im not religious but I still pray that Trump does not get in 2024. This is my effort, little as it is.
