Premium Outlets is a chain of high-end outlet malls scattered around the country. They are all open-air malls. Combine open-air malls with Texans' love of guns, and it only makes sense that there were quite a few armed individuals there at the time of the mass shooting.
If you take the Second Amendment Absolutists at their word, twenty or thirty of these Good Guys With Guns should have immediately whipped out their shootin' arns, formed up into an impromptu infantry platoon, and killed the Bad Guy With A Gun who was killing their fellow shoppers.
But...they didn't. A cop at the mall killed him.
The only thing I can think of is the whole "good guy with a gun" is a myth - largely because when you need 'em, they're not there.

(22,792 posts)If he hadn't already been there, the casualty count could have been much worse.
But eight is bad enough.

(129,722 posts)the problem with assault weapons is that they can kill an awful lot of people before the good guy with a gun - if there is one - can get to the shooter. Seems to me it would be much better if the bad guy had no gun at all so he couldn't kill anybody before the good guy shoots him? The good guy with the gun probably isn't going to shoot the bad guy until the bad guy shoots someone else.

(16,084 posts)element of surprise and kill an awful lot of people before he's taken out. Just like this incident.
You can't do anything about the element of suprise.
The human killing machines have to be taken out of the hands of civilians.

(9,015 posts)Taking out somebody with body armor and a semi-automatic rifle is no small task, especially with a pistol.

(15,359 posts)with a rifle like that right? I suppose unless he got booted for the psychological problems right away.
If he was any good with his weapons, we might be amazed with the cop's story. It could be incredibly lucky he even got a good shot at him. If a guy like that got to a good spot where he could see anyone approaching, who knows how bad it could have been.

(4,002 posts)I had a CCW in my last two states. I carried a KelTec PF9 with a nine round magazine. Honestly I dont know if Id try to engage someone with an AR15 spraying bullets everywhere. Assault weapons are the problem. Handgun against handgun Id try to stop them. A barrage spray if bullets . I would have to be very lucky to take them out.

(52,992 posts)At my local Walmart there is a sign on both doors: "Please refrain from openly carrying firearms."
You can walk into that place at any time they're open and find at least one person open-carrying.
Worse: I was in there one day and there were many people standing outside the produce department, with no one inside...except some asshole in full tactical gear carrying an AR-15. When he went to the bakery, everyone in there decided looking at the ice cream was a good idea.

(33,424 posts)So if they comply with the restriction they are now at fault? I really don't get the logic.

(17,873 posts)Ya know, that's a pretty broad swipe at firearm owners, like myself.
You are aware that there are perhaps millions of Democrats, like myself, who own firearms, know how to read and write, and support sensible firearm laws, aren't you?
Also, WalMart just asks, not bans firearms in their stores.

But remember the cops were great because only 16 people were shot - and this was the Almightys doing.
Do I need the sarcasm thingy?

(18,318 posts)Cops see you engaging anyone and they'll open fire on you. They don't know if you're the perp or a good guy...
If you are armed... in that situation, you run.
