Trump's rape deposition tape shows exactly why MAGA loves him
Trump is sulky, entitled and misogynist in his rape deposition exactly what MAGA loves about him

(Salon) Donald Trump, cursed with a sociopathic narcissist's inability to think even five minutes past whatever bluster he thinks will impress people in the moment, let loose with an especially pathetic bit of bravado last week on a golf course in Ireland. When asked by a reporter about the ongoing civil case in New York City regarding a rape accusation leveled by journalist E. Jean Carroll, Trump implausibly insisted he's not afraid to show his face in court. "I have to go back for a woman that made a false accusation about me," he raved. "I'm going to go back, and I'm going to confront this."

As usual, Trump was lying. The judge gave him until Sunday afternoon to agree to testify, and he ignored the deadline. Trump's lawyer, Joe Tacopino, expressed frustration to the judge about his lying client, saying, "I know you understand what I am dealing with."
Steve Benen at MSNBC wrote, "This isn't likely to help the former president's defense," because it means "jurors won't hear directly from the defendant." Instead, they will only watch excerpts from Trump's deposition, many of which were also released to the public last week. But in watching those clips, it's easy to see why Trump's lawyers reportedly told him not to testify. Trump does a piss-poor job at denying the accusations against him. Instead, he comes across as furious at having his "right" to manhandle women questioned. He can't even keep up the pretense that he believes rape is bad. He would liekly be even more repulsive on the stand.
Well, repulsive to normal people, anyway. It's important to understand that his mix of aggrieved entitlement and misogyny, which alienates most people, is exactly why the GOP base loves him and will re-nominate him for the presidency next year. ...........(more)

(31,056 posts)I cant believe people look at this guy and say they want him to be the leader of our beloved country and represent us around the world. Is this how they want the rest of the world to think of Americans, as a spoiled, no morals Richie Rich all grown up. This is their idea of an outstanding American?

(3,168 posts)In most cases, someone like Trump would be the absolute opposite of what those hardcore right-wingers love. Trump is a loudmouthed New Yorker who is as elitist as they get.
But now they worship at his feet.

(8,812 posts)That simple. They are so blinded by the shared hate, they do not see or feel the slow insertion up the Back side. And if they ever do, it will be like two dogs hung up and can not decouple. WT too late. Cold water will not fix it. They will just have to live with being screwed.

(2,331 posts)I can say this with certainty. I've disowned relatives and friends over this. Before Trump, these people would have never dared to say certain things based on their awareness of what the reactions to their statements would elicit. After Trump, it is almost a badge of pride. I literally stopped talking to my father's brother (refuse to call him my uncle) and his family after the things they were saying during is Presidency. The tip of the iceberg was when they celebrated January 6 and I we all agreed to not talk to each other anymore. Honestly it doesn't even make me a little bit sad because now I know that part of the family are huge assholes and I'd rather not have any interaction with them.

(51,630 posts)BS from the typical GQP general topics of terrorists, immigrants, taxes, etc. so multiply my irritation by 1,000,000 and I see what you have chosen NOT to deal with. Good for you. I don't get now she, a former Dem, can feel free to go on and on about her views without purposely trying to stir the pot. I keep my mouth closed for the most part but it is NOT easy. I'd tell her to shut up but I need her help after I start getting sick so I am stuck.

(2,331 posts)Of all my Dad's family, he is the one that I have the least history with. He married late so the cousins were never my age and he didn't come around much when I was young. We would meet up about twice a year.
I have a friend's dad who has similar views but we were at each other's house every weekend growing up and I'm still tight with her. He is harder to disown.

I think at least part of his doubling down on the Access Hollywood tape is that he can't ever admit he was wrong about anything. He said it, so when questioned he had to defend it ... because if he said it, it must be so.

You know, a lot of the GOP base are women, older women. Over our lifetimes we've almost all run into a lot of jerks like this, most of us fortunate enough to avoid rape or really serious sexual assault, but not all. Even a moment's thought might make one wonder about how much the typical Republican woman "loves" him for that deposition.
This kind of thing IS, however, an example of why some admit they want to be post-tRump and are wishing for another, more competently aggressive strongman leader to move in. For the same, more complex reasons they want authoritarian leaders.
