Today, we take a look at the candidates for office in Lackawanna County.
Judge of the Court of Common Pleas

County Commissioner
The Lackawanna County Board of Commissioners consists of three elected officials. The Board of Commissioners serves as the governing body of Lackawanna County. The Commissioners are responsible for implementing operational policies and administering programs that deal with human services, public safety, economic development, and recreational and quality of life amenities in an efficient and cost-effective manner for the residents of Lackawanna County.

Magisterial District Judge (MDJ)
Magisterial District Court is the first level of judicial authority in Pennsylvania and is the court where most people experience the judicial system for the first time. Magisterial District Judges handle all traffic cases, minor criminal cases, and civil cases involving amounts up to $12,000. Magisterial District Judges also set bail and conduct preliminary hearings in misdemeanor and felony criminal cases to determine if the cases should be dismissed or transferred to the Court of Common Pleas for further proceedings.
