Rethugs passed an unfunded $2.3 TRILLION corporate tax cut under trump, then raised the debt ceiling (with NO preconditions) 3 times while ballooning the deficit, and NOW under Biden theyre refusing to pay THEIR bills?
The people need to know this.

(7,206 posts)raising the debt ceiling allows for more spending, not for paying the bills already accrued. I think they think it is like getting an increased credit line on one's credit card...now you can spend more.

No, the noise blatting out of the TV set didn't inform them. Maybe Maddow or some of the others on MSNBC mentioned it, but that's as far as it went.
Oh, they saw their own tax cuts and rejoiced. Nobody told them about the fine print on those, either, and they have now mostly ended.

(12,441 posts)I think the VAST majority of Americans think that the US prints cash when it needs it and that's that.
I think you'd shock a chunk of the population to tell them otherwise.

(9,895 posts)That is 100% by design to promote and promulgate minority rule in a country that demographically and ideologically HATES one of the two parties and tolerates the other.
In any sane universe, Donald Trump would not be a viable political candidate, he would be an impeached and convicted traitor/ex-president, barred from ever again holding office or trust under the United States and in very real peril of conviction for seditious conspiracy and life in prison sentencing.

(1,159 posts)It isnt a complicated issue as you so succinctly described it, but what little Ive heard from our Democratic leadership on public radio leaves me thinking the public does NOT know about that background information.
I dont watch tv, so I was just hoping above hope that our messaging is better there.

(3,495 posts)I usually scroll through article comments and am (pleasantly) surprised at how may folks chime in how Republic tax cuts account for a lot of the debt. It's the M$M that can't seem to ask any Republic representative about how their tax cuts contributed to the debt problems our country faces. The only thing that seems (on their) table is cuts in spending.
In a more perfect world, Congressionally passed tax cuts or spending would be automatically rescinded if tax receipts couldn't pay for them.

It's not that they can't ask, but because they won't. Not as long as the MSM are in the income bracket to benefit from those very tax cuts.
People forget that these talking head traitors are among the 1%.
They will never speak up about it, because they won't stop that sweet, sweet tax cut $$$$$$ rolling in for them.
