(151,069 posts)CBS local and national news, twice a day. Minneapolis Star-Tribune. MSNBC. DU. That's it, mostly.
YouTube is not a news media outlet.
Twitter has been subsumed by idiots.
If something is breaking, I google local news outlets to learn more.
How about listing the ones you "consume?"

(578 posts)YouTube.
Lemme guess, you're a boomer?
NotVeryImportant
(578 posts)"Morning Joe" every day.
That's all I need because all the other media outlet has some version of whatever was discussed there.
The rest I get from my favorite YouTube shows like "Majority Report", "The Young Turks", Roland Martin, Amy Goodman and others.
I may scan the local news for a weather report every now and then.
I used to watch "Air America", I used to watch almost everything on msnbc all day for years, I even spent 3 to 5 years consuming mostly FOXNEWS just to get an understanding of rightwingers are.
They haven't changed, they've only gotten worse.
The mainstream media is a JOKE and I first came to understand this during Bush II's regime, I've been getting more jaded since then.

(578 posts)How do you wager I was able to accurately guess, in one shot, that you're a boomer?
MineralMan
(151,069 posts)I don't care, really. I don't bet on silly stuff, either. There are many, many boomers here on DU. That's also irrelevant.

(51,308 posts)"YouTube" as a news outlet! Lmao!
Twitter: you nailed it.
MineralMan
(151,069 posts)News tells you what has happened. Commentary is one person's analysis of what the news means.
I want to know what happened. I decide for myself what that means. Maybe not everyone is able to do that.

(40,607 posts)It tends to bypass our critical thinking skills and appeal directly to more primitive parts of our brain. That's why garbage like Fox "News" is so effective.
My wife and I mostly read our news. We have several newspaper subscriptions -- local, national, and international. I also pay attention to international news sites such as Deutsche Welle, paying some attention to what their biases might be.
I quit television news and opinion entirely shortly after 9/11/2001. I blame it for both the war in Iraq and Donald Trump.
Donald Trump would be a nobody without television, just another scummy New York City landlord and developer among many.

(2,010 posts)To see what they are hyping or focusing on. I look at DU a lot to see what's in breaking news or latest threads or articles and editorials. I do not watch TV.
I do watch some clips on YouTube, most found here, but very limited compared to the reading I do.
Many websites will let you access a few articles without paying or registering, but mostly the articles aren't accessible unless there's a link here. These include the NY times, Washington Post, Wall Street journal, and lately CNn, but I look at their homepages, which tells me a lot.
And I read articles on NPR, MSNBC, Reuters and AP. And many others I check on every week or two, from medical or science sites to mother Jones to Al Jazeera. There's a site I found years ago that has interesting reports and information on many news outlets, called FAIR, fairness and accuracy in reporting, sharing a link.
https://fair.org/
Sometimes a friend will tell or ask me about something they heard or read and I will Google to find out more. It amazes me how they and many and others can be swayed by one source, not recognizing it's media manipulation.
I get my doses of news on my terms!
Thanks to DU for being an important source.
