(9,073 posts)Just ask me.
However, regarding the list . . . well, people like to believe these things about themselves.
How it all falls out in experience, however, is generally somewhat different.

(3,706 posts)Those who tell themselves otherwise are in self-denial and not-so-wise.
When asleep, only subjective dream-worlds exist.
To successfully share daytime reality with others, one must awaken.
"Unwoke" are those who sleep-walk through life bumping into things and expecting to be apologized to.

(13,180 posts)Now, say we get a Dem convention of some sort together and vote on the above principles. We decide democratically that, henceforth, it is the position of the Dems that "woke" means those 10 principles (and only those 10), well, then we'd be talking. We could, in other words, recapture the meaning of the term and exclude from it all of the negative connotations that have been glommed onto "wokeness" by left and right self-elected term definers.

(163 posts)status quo, which Republicans have been rejecting out of pure stupidity. Oh well - their loss. Here's where I discovered woke a long - long time ago....
Black American folk singer-songwriter Huddie Ledbetter, a.k.a. Lead Belly, used the phrase "stay woke" as part of a spoken afterword to a 1938 recording of his song "Scottsboro Boys", which tells the story of nine black teenagers and young men falsely accused of raping two white women in Alabama in 1931..
In the recording, Lead Belly says he met with the defendant's lawyer and the young men themselves, and "I advise everybody, be a little careful when they go along through there (Scottsboro) best stay woke, keep their eyes open."[4][12] Aja Romano writes at Vox that this usage reflects "Black Americans' need to be aware of racially motivated threats and the potential dangers of white America"
Republicans and many others don't even know what it means, which is a good thing. Just leave it be.

I do not use woke at all myself, nor am I saying you (or anyone else) should.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/23_skidoo
23 skidoo (sometimes 23 skiddoo) is an American slang phrase generally referring to leaving quickly, being forced to leave quickly by someone else, or taking advantage of a propitious opportunity to leave. Popularized during the early 20th century, the exact origin of the phrase is uncertain.
23 skidoo has been described as "perhaps the first truly national fad expression and one of the most popular fad expressions to appear in the U.S", to the extent that "Pennants and arm-bands at shore resorts, parks, and county fairs bore either or the word 'Skiddoo'."
"23 skidoo" combines two earlier expressions, "twenty-three" (1899) and "skidoo" (1901), both of which, independently and separately, referred to leaving, being kicked out, or the end of something. "23 skidoo" quickly became a popular catchphrase after its appearance in early 1906.
