(151,268 posts)I knew it, but it's still interesting, isn't it? I don't think it was presented as news, actually.

(16,270 posts)especially when it's this old.
This isn't the only thing like this that has been posted that was from last month or last year or a couple of years ago. Having to wade through some link to discover that this was relevant in 2020 or whatever shouldn't be the duty of the person reading the post, it should be the duty of the poster to make clear what and when the post was. Being "interesting" is irrelevant.

(151,268 posts)Any time Ken Ham is shown for the moron he is is a good thing. I saw that at the time it first appeared. Most people did not.
An innocent mistake by the poster. Not worth castigated him, at all.

(16,270 posts)Besides it should be in the OP since it was years old. You shouldn't have to click on the external link to get this information.
There's a lot of lazy posting on DU including posts that have confusing and sometimes quite obvious typos that never get corrected.

(151,268 posts)Just below, the OP explains that he didn't know the date of the video. That's an easy mistake to make if you watch a YouTube video on a discussion forum. The date doesn't show up in that case.
Bottom line, though, is that it doesn't matter enough to call the guy out for posting the video. Nobody on DU is required to read any post or watch any video posted here. Instead, you have to go out of your way to criticize someone for posting it.
Finally, my name is not Francis. But, hey, thanks for the reply to my post, which wasn't directed at you in the first place. I appreciate the time it took you. Really.

(6,783 posts)and I remember a while back how you talked to me in one of these chats. And, I remember a time when you made fun of a southern accent. I'm not a southerner, but a proud Texan. I'm sure the minute you heard me open my mouth, you would have made up your mind about me when my so-called Texas drawl came out. Nevertheless, you are not the nice, friendly, all-knowing guy you make yourself out to be. I came here in 2002 as Ishoutandscream, and changed to Ishoutandscream2 a couple of years later. I mostly lurk to look at news stories here. I posted a serious question a few years back on the drug forum, and you belittled it and made fun of it throughout, and I felt bullied and didn't post for quite a while.
I guarantee there are others here who feel, that, too. Especially from folks like you. It's like high school all over again, and the "cool kids" control the narrative and act rudely to those who don't post much. No, you're not the great guy people here think you are. Just remember that.

(151,268 posts)here. So, I did a site search for my screen name and yours. That search found only five threads where we were even in the same thread. None of those contained anything like what you are saying I did. So, I'm sort of at a loss to know what you are talking about. I don't remember ever posting in a "drug forum" here, either. In fact, I can't even find a "drug forum" on DU.
So, maybe you can give me a link or two to one of those instances. I will go look at them, if you do. I've made quite a few posts and replies on DU, so I can't remember all of the threads I've posted in. But, I can't find any that match what you are saying.
I have posted negatively a few times about my own experiences in Texas. Those and the current political realities of Texas make me less than happy with that state. A majority of voters there have elected people like Ted Cruz and Governor Abbott. So, I'm disinclined to think positively about Texas, even though I have no doubt that there are good people there. I don't know any of those people, though.
So, you have made some statements about me. I'd welcome having a chance to go and see what you're talking about. I have only been here since 2008, so I would have missed your posts with your previous screen name.

(6,783 posts)And the southern drawl was from someone else's post a few years ago. Not asking you to love Texas, but to treat people from below the Mason-Dixon Line with a little more respect. Just because we are from that area doesn't mean we're all like our leaders. As a matter of fact, we have to fight or keep our mouths shut ALL THE DAMNED time. And please don't say to move. It can't work that way for everyone, even though I've been wanting to move to Oregon. But, family obligations.
There is no reason why I'd be lying to you. Your name stands out for the things I have mentioned. And as I also mentioned, it kept me from posting for a long time after the drug forum post. You made me feel stupid, and in turn, I felt bullied.
MineralMan
(151,268 posts)I looked through the entire list of topic groups. None are called the "Drug Forum" or anything similar. Give me a link, if you can, and I'll go look at the thread you're talking about. As of right now, I can only find five threads where we interacted at all, and none of them are anything like that.
You may be confusing me with someone else.

(23,715 posts)He was a vendor that worked on contract on my project. He was a controls engineer. Working on sophisticated and complex mechanical systems installing and programming controls. In short it was work it requires intelligence to do. And he did a great job of it.
So when I asked where he was going on vacation and this was the answer, my jaw almost dropped on the floor. Think I just said have a great time! Not for me to judge. But to this day I cant believe how someone that smart blew his money on a nonsense brain dead attraction like this.

(40,689 posts)These people truly believe Ken Ham DESTROYED Bill Nye's arguments.
I learned a long time ago it's useless to argue with people like this.
I'm an evolutionary biologist by natural inclination and some formal training. When my children were in grade school we had this character who'd get invited to schools to show off his excellent fossil collection. He had permission from school administrators to visit classrooms and quite a few teachers loved him because he was entertaining and personable and they could count his presentations as a science lab in their lesson plans.
The guy was also a creationist. His presentations weren't overtly religious, but talking to him in private I learned he attributed nearly all of earth's complex geology to Noah's flood. He never said that explicitly in his public classroom presentations but he didn't say anything that contradicted his belief either.
My children went to public schools. I soon learned his presentations to private Evangelical Christian schools and and adult church groups were something else entirely.
Eventually a few like minded parents and myself got him banned from the local public schools. Alas, as a "persecuted" Christian that probably increased his popularity among the anti-intellectual religious people.
I later saw his name among the speakers at an outdoor education seminar. He was a no-show to that and I like to think it's because he knew I'd be there.
The most effective way to deal with Creationists isn't debate. Sometime's you've just got to be this guy:

(7,349 posts)...based on the Bible or any other religious text, well, have at it. If a town/city wants to subsidize a part of it, I have no problem with that as long as they get it all back and then some in future taxes. NFL stadiums are probably the worst offenders of this as the city often needs a long time to recoup the outlay.
Where I do have a problem, is when they try to cross over and force their ideology down the throats in schools, media, law, etc.
Of course, if you really did want to make a theme park based on the Bible, then everyone would have to shed their clothes to walk through the Garden of Eden attraction, see massive bloody re-enactments, etc. Have rides that simulate you being on the walls of Jericho as they fall, etc.
