Many people just don't seem to understand what's at stake. She makes it simple.

(586 posts)Are so brainwashed that their independent thinking processes are obliterated. It is scary how hateful and ignorant a wide segment of our population has become. Trump opened the door to hate and resentment and the imbeciles walked in with a smile on their faces...sickening.

(114,614 posts)like Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, Veterans' health care, pensions, and other benefits, school lunches, public school, itself, and anything else that benefits the people at the expense of the stock market.
It might be time for a discussion about why we have a country and a government. It it solely to benefit a rigid and small power elite, or do we have it to benefit the people? A quick reading of the preamble to the constitution should answer that question.

(3,894 posts)force a default on the national debt - I, along with most likely millions of other seniors, will literally be out on the street, hoping to find a shopping cart to hold what's left of our lives.
People are saying SS and Medicare/Medicaid will be at risk, but there is hardly any mention of what that 'risk' may actually mean. And we cannot forget the many other millions of American Citizens, also at risk, who could lose everything (not hyperbole) like their Veterans benefits, or 3 million jobs, or dealing with crazy Mortgage rates, Scarcity & hunger for children, actual loss of Retirement savings and so on.
This is not a soulless, juvenile competition- and it's not the time to be acting the fool! Clearly McCarthy's Congressional Creatures are not only insane, but ignorant cretins to support that no-spine/ ass-hat McCarthy& his dream of unlimited power. If they actually enable crazy & vicious McCarthy to allow this default, they should know there are millions of voters they will have lost forever. But that point may eventually prove to be moot.
How and why have so many malevolent narcissists gathered in one place, I wonder?
Can nothing be done? It is starting to seem hopeless.
Anyway, did not mean to share so much of my sob story. But the actual point is that
the risks are terrible and real and I know I am not alone.
Thanks
military members be paid? I thought I heard a couple times they would not be paid, but not sure about that.

(5,131 posts)because they are Dept of Homeland Security (I loathe that term, it's so Nazi) and not Dept of Defense. The last time the Rethugs did this my son had a food and diaper drive and raised over $1K to be distributed among his coworkers who didn't have any savings to weather the interruption in pay.

(40,969 posts)The internet says, that on top of huge tax cuts for the corporations & the wealthy, republicans in Congress also raised the debt limit three times with no pre-conditions, all while Trump was in office.
The level of hypocrisy is stunning & lack of reporting on it equally stunning. The media is going to help reelect that putrid orange piece of shit. They will help usher in the very authoritarian regime that will shut a lot of them down.

(13,003 posts)could bring down upon us a cataclysmic nightmare that would take decades, if not forever, to stabilize.......
I can only imagine that N. Korea, Russia, China, the Saudi's, Iran, India, and countless other nation's tyrants are salivating like Pavlov's dog right now....................
I think the 6 million jobs and unemployment at 7% are grossly underestimated.........
"Hoovervilles" are already cropping up across the nation.
Defaulting on the Debt would be far more disastrous than our Great Depression, but this time we would have to think about a whole new situation.........This time there would be 70+ Million Trumphumpers out there, armed to the teeth, playing survival of the fittest.......
It would quickly become what it was like at the Capitol on J6th, except in every city and town across the entire U.S.
You gotta hand it to the Repubs, Since 1980 they have been working on this concept of a Republican ruled New America.
They have orchestrated it, they have organized it, and are zeroing in on the target...........The U.S. has missed a ton of close calls, but I am not sure that will continue............
The Republican Voters are nothing more than MAGAT pawns, but are too ignorant or stupid to realize everyone below the top 1% will be royally screwed. The 1% wants to reduce the remaining 99% down to serfs and peasants.........

(37,051 posts)I live in a well known retirement community in Arizona, where the average age is certainly over 65 (minimum age of 55 to live here at all and the place is huge). Most residents are pretty conservative retirees. The dude across the street has a big Trump 2024 flag draped on the front of his house. You'd think that their loyalties would go out the window with their first missed social security check, which will impose real hardship on folks here, as will any loss of private savings.
I think they'll simply project their pain onto dems no matter how little sense that makes. MAGA republicans are utterly attached to their grievances to the point where all MAGA public life is defined by them. If we fixed all their grievances at once with a magic wand they would simply create more, because their sense of self is chained to their grievances and they won't/can't live without them.
Thirty-ish percent of Americans will always wish and vote for chaos and self destruction, no matter what. THAT is the real crisis of our democracy.
