A close encounter with paparazzi, or something?
I am sorry but this couple has been expecting to make a living based on their fame: interviews, "tell all" book, a "tell all" cable series, so you need to take precautions with the uninvited side of this fame.
Yes, sad memories of Diana.

(52,135 posts)I would get ready to go to work that started at 10:00 am and Headline News was in the background. if it was business news, I knew iit was 15 min after the hour. Sports - 20 min.
Of course, before all the other sources of news that we have now.
And then that station was taking over by a zealot anchor going after real and imaginative crimes. Or so.

(20,905 posts)CNN has been like this for twenty years or more. I remember in the spring of 2005 when they were obsessed with the "runaway bride" story to the exclusion of everything else. Including the day when our troops were targeted in three separate areas throughout Iraq and the country was in flames.
What did CNN focus on? The runaway bride story fir the ENTIRE FUCKING DAY AND NIGHT, including assigning a "journalist" to accompany the bride on her flight back home after her week escaping her wedding. That was it for me, as far as CNN was concerned!

(1,159 posts)This is in line with CNNs recent Trump town hall. They are courting the FoxNews, DailyMail, tabloid crowd that starts wringing its hands and gnashing its teeth with rage any time they see an article about Harry and Megan.
Yellow journalism is cheap, and it works. Why give bottom feeders steak when theyll happily get fat on chum?

CNN, MSNBC, and every other cable network will give coverage to the mass shooting by our home-grown terrorists. All day.
Incidentally, the BBC report said the chase by the paparazzi put pedestrians and other cars at risk. That is newsworthy. I hope American police agencies take this more seriously than the Brits do.

(51,308 posts)They always have another car with them, and everyone has phones and radios.
Why not call the cops and say we are coming to such and such station now?
Or simply go to whatever ritzy place theyre staying, into an underground garage, and theyd be safe as houses!
Desperate for publicity.

(3,379 posts)This is being reported everywhere. It lasted for 2 hours and involved several cars following them. It involved police and other bystanders . That kind of behavior is extremely problematic and newsworthy even if you don't like the people who are being targeted. Just because somebody is famous doesn't mean they deserve to have their lives put at risk. They also had a stalker arrested at their home in California two nights ago.

(51,308 posts)They could have driven to a police station. They could have returned to their hotel.
A dangerous stunt. Truth will out.

(12,063 posts)So they follow your advice and go to a police station... then what?
The papparazi get photographs of them at a police station. Those photos are still worth thousands because there's a dramatic story attached.
And the couple can't go to their meetings or have lunch or do whatever it is they were planning to do. They get to spend their day trapped at a police station.
It's really a no-win situation for them.

(15,406 posts)1. Celebrity drivers are trained in evasion tactics because one never knows if a pursuer is just an idiot photographer or a psycho fan (or political opportunist) intent on kidnapping, terrorizing, or murder.
2. There were apparently a lot of near misses. People minding their own business could have been injured or killed because Paparazzi are pursuing a celebrity like a wolf pack on New York roads.
I may have issues with celebrities and their antics, but I have even more issues with greedy paparazzi endangering others just to get a video or photo they can sell for a few thousand.

(7,964 posts)Yes it is a form of news in that they are celebrities. But is it the most important news of the day? No. But it's celeb news so it leads on CNN these days, which is sad. I agree with the poster.

I visit CNN everyday and I'm not seeing this turn right... The usual number of articles indicating status quo.
and for me personally, it feels like there is a heavy campaign here to Boycott CNN... and I'm starting to question that effort's intent.
Are we being propagandized to boycott what is a democratic leaning network? If so, that certainly benefits the magats.
that is my opinion.
