10. I met a real creationist science teacher in small-town Illinois, many years ago.

Flat-earth fantasies had not yet come into vogue in Fundy culture. The people in that small town thought this guy was a great teacher. When my husband and I were introduced to him, he made it clear that he also thought Hitler and the Nazis "weren't so bad." I drew a deep breath; what I was about to say would have meant I would have been fired in that small town. I had spent most of my childhood in a Jewish neighborhood, with many good Jewish friends. Luckily, my army veteran husband was right next to him, and he said quietly, "Those were crimes against humanity." The "great teacher" said "Bah!" and walked out.

It seems a miracle they didn't die on the spot, if only from shock, alone. 3 heart attacks.
