DeathSantis is an idiot and has declared full war on Disney. Disney is already cutting back on investment and new jobs for Florida

Though the press conference was focused on signing anti-crime bills, DeSantis commented on his ongoing battle against The House of Mouse. He argued that Disney is acting like they have the ability to veto.
It is basically putting their thumb in the eye of the voters, he said.
Furthermore, the Republican Governor promised to pass legislation nullifying the hastily-passed resolution that effectively revoked power from Disneys Reedy Creek Improvement District. The former board quietly took action one day before the Disney Park was forced to hand control to DeSantiss hand-selected committee.
The new board already voted to nullify the agreement, which Disney maintained was passed legally. DeSantis promised widespread retaliation, threatening increased taxes, government control of the Monorail system, and a new state prison steps from Walt Disney World Resort.

I live in Michigan now, so I don't follow Florida news, except from DU's posts. On FRS news, I am clueless, and I don't want to be. . Thank you.

Thank you for the link. That man is DANGEROUS in so many ways!
There ought to be a law where a politician can't use money like this as their own personal piggy bank. That billion must've made him feel like a big hero, tough guy.
I'm going to start Googling to help find some answers.
Thank you, again.

(6,551 posts)Florida without Disney is just a few orange groves and lots of empty houses. I honestly didnt think he would go full ballistic on Florida but I guess I was wrong. Yes, there is lots more to Florida, but they are a huge part of the total economy down here. DeSantis is a huge danger to Florida. God help us all if he should become president. Very scary.

(6,551 posts)None of us alive now will see Florida underwater. We will, unfortunately, see intensifying storms. And yes, more areas will flood. But, I wonder at your motivation for your comments. They dont seem particularly useful.

(8,103 posts)I think that you are out of the climate change loop and that your comment is not well researched. And, you think that worsening weather cycles are not worthy of note?
Disney might well make plans to leave Florida in its rear view mirror. Not sure what DeSantis is getting out of the destruction of this employer for the sin of inclusion.
My motivation for this response? Your attempt to stifle a perfectly reasonable and clever observation by a fellow member. I think it is fear driven, but you accomplish nothing by hiding your head in the swamp.
Biophilic
(6,551 posts)and the prison is a clever observation? Really? No, I'm not out of the loop about climate change. Haven't been out of it since the 70s. And no, I'm not fear driven, but I am really, really tired of totally negative comments like this about Florida. They serve no constructive purpose except to let the commenter feel clever. And if my response is considered fear driven and not useful, than ignore it.

(1,085 posts)This flooding issue seems to be a bone of contention. Most of Florida's regions are particularly vulnerable to pollution from .ground water.. Thus, septic systems often are actually sitting in groundwater, ...As a 60 year real estate broker my position is, if you have a septic tank in your yard and it gets flooded over you are walking in excrement in your yard. But dont take my word for it, bring a water sample to a local lab but dont tell them what you are doing. Over a third of Florida homes are on septic tanks. Dont worry about flooding, but get a pair of boots to walk in your yard. Another good subject for our forum is INFLOW and INFILTRATION . That is when your city water pipe is vulnerable to flooding.

(6,551 posts)This was pretty evident last year following Ian when the city closed the water system down; no water, no really functional sewer for around a week. The pacific coast had fires. The Midwest and southwest draught. The east coast is getting hammered with more and more severe storms. Short of Michigan, where I came from, we are all facing some really severe weather challenges. All Im saying is that Florida shouldnt be picked on just because we have some very misguided citizens and a total destructive AH for a governor. Oh, yes, a spineless, worthless legislature.

(1,085 posts)Thank you for your comment Biophilic. We must remember that Obama won Florida. And, not all of those who voted for him have died. My other thought is that DeSantis did not really win the last election and the fraud was on created by the Republicans. And a very bright spot is a few miles to the north are two Democratic U S Senators and Biden won the state. I find that if we all stay positive and look to our victories the US is a pretty good place.
Expanding on that, Tucker Carlson is gone, and not because of us, but by an act of fratricide. The internecine battles have begun. I certainly don't care for Sununu in New Hampshire but Jen Psaki showed CNN how to be a political journalist.
Because i operate a real estate business in the tri-state area I already knew what a bum Trump was for not paying his bills and arrogant treatment of those who work for him. I said when he started that no one could bring down the religious right and the Republican Party as quickly and efficiently as Trump.
Here's some numbers for us to chew on Florida voter registration 2022 Republicans 5,312,122 Democrats 4,928,168 And how many people are being transferred from California by Disney? So to you naysayers on DU, when you are ready to take arsenic be sure it is only ArsenicLITE. Democrats will be back just keep the faith.

Ron DeSantis is to blame for this. Dont let anyone else say differently.
Rons rampant abuse of power is costing Floridians money and jobs.
More proof Ron DeSantis should never ever be president.

And the Universal theme parks are owned by Comcast, so they have to be watching this as well and making moves accordingly.
Also, Disney is yanking its future investments in Florida while going full steam ahead in Anaheim and Paris.
The dumbass is already poisoning his national chances, thank fully.

(60,179 posts)A Republican threatening to INCREASE taxes. As for a state prison steps from the Disney Resort--if he keeps this up--anyone living in another state steps from the Florida border might start to feel the same threat.
I have pity for those people in Florida who must feel like they have been living in a place blessed by nature and yet cursed by their fellow humans who share it, and would destroy it, if given the chance.
