Texas cities again lead population growth, and Austin is now country's 10th largest

Texas is now home to four of the nation’s largest cities, with Austin finally joining Houston, San Antonio and Dallas on the list of top 10 most populous cities.

New population estimates released Thursday by the U.S. Census Bureau showed significant growth in the Austin metro area overall, with several of its suburbs ranking among the fastest-growing cities in the country. The estimates track population growth from July 2021 to July 2022.

Georgetown, a suburb north of Austin, once again saw the fastest pace of growth in the country with a rate of 14.4%, surpassing its 10.5% rate from 2020 to 2021. The bureau estimates Georgetown’s population reached 86,507 after an increase of 10,887 in 2022. The booming city gained more new residents than Dallas, which at 1.3 million total residents saw a gain of only 8,833.

Kyle, south of Austin, and Leander to the northwest ranked third and fourth among the fastest-growing cities with populations of 50,000 or more. Of the 10 fastest-growing cities in the country, Texas took four spots, with Little Elm in the Dallas-Fort Worth region ranking fifth.

Fort Worth gained the highest sheer number of new residents of any city in the country in 2022, with an increase of 19,170. Its total population hit 956,709 last year.

And then you are offered some bare feet and a kitchen and a nice helping of shut-the-fuck-up and make that baby.

Or die.

the crazy growth has caused nothing but PROBLEMS. It's become an issue for anyone to live here due to rising prices and insane property taxes... the infrastructure has not been able to catch up to the deluge of people causing issues regarding electricity and water. Any GREEN space has been trampled. Traffic? I don't even wanna talk about it.

More crime, homelessness... no police presence.911? Forget about getting help. My HOMETOWN is unrecognizable and no longer a beautiful place.

As a 5th generation Austinite, it BLOWS!

...but one here in California did a study of the people leaving here for Texas. As you would expect, most were California die hard Republicans. Bitching and moaning that the state is fully Democrat and some even bailed after the failed recall. Many of the people they talked also stated they love having a huge freaking house (I know people like that and they always complain about cleaning and maintaining a huge house). An old friend who is a religious nut, GOP, etc. recently moved there, he thinks its the greatest having a five bedroom house and away from "evil California". I give him three years before he wants back.

Another point the article brought up, some are considering to return (or have already). The massive property tax (something we don't have here), sky high insurance rates (Texas gets tornado's and hurricanes) and weather that is less appeasing has made them rethink their decision.

Francisco. TX's anti-choice laws drove her away. She was born and raised in the Boston area and a life long Democrat.

I am a 3rd generation Texan and I would never go back. I love my blue state of CT. I feel safe and welcome here.
