Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) this week opened a Senate investigation into his allegations that Anheuser-Busch markets Bud Light to underage consumers in its ad featuring transgender influencer Dylan Mulvaney.
In a letter to Anheuser-Busch CEO Brendan Whitworth, Cruz and Sen. Marsha Blackburn (R-Tenn.) also asked the beer industry trade group Beer Institute, which Whitworth chairs, to conduct its own investigation. Or the company could say its sorry for any infraction and publicly disassociate from Mulvaney to avoid further inquiry, the senators wrote, making their actions appear more like a publicity stunt.
We would urge you, in your capacity at Anheuser-Busch, to avoid a lengthy investigation by the Beer Institute by instead having Anheuser-Busch publicly sever its relationship with Dylan Mulvaney, publicly apologize to the American people for marketing alcoholic beverages to minors, and direct Dylan Mulvaney to remove any Anheuser-Busch content from his social media platforms. (The letter repeatedly misgenders Mulvaney, who uses she-they pronouns.)
Mulvaney, a 26-year-old actor who chronicled her transition to a wide audience on TikTok, appeared in a one-off Instagram post promoting Bud Light for March Madness. She showed off a can with her likeness that the brand made especially for her.

Don't agree with the ad? Don't fucking drink Bud Light. It's fairly simple.

(1,003 posts)After watching this commercial on YouTube several times, I cannot see any validity whatsoever to the assertion that this constitutes marketing beer to underage consumers. IMO the folks at AB should not even respond to this, it's not worthy of a response. Just saying.....

(82,849 posts)You know, every now and then I get caught up in the news, and the seemingly intractable problems that beset our nation and people around the world. War and terrorism, famine, the inequitable distribution of wealth, preventable disease and sickness, and so forth.
Then I take a look at what absorbs the tiny minds of Republican Senators, and I have to surmise that those problems aren't so great after all, if these Senators can devote their time to meddling in the affairs and advertisements of a minor consumer commodity.

his nose in their business.

(58,785 posts)Not that this is more than spotlight-seeking opportunism by Ted Cruz and Marsha Blackburn, but it does show they would use government to end intellectual freedom and force obedience and conformity to "state" dictates.

The Great Texas Freeze
DEATH TOLL : 246
When a historic winter storm devastated Texas in 2021 and Texans were left freezing and fighting for their lives, Ted Cruz promptly abandoned victims and jetted off to the sunny beaches of Cancun, Mexico.
Ted fled the crisis, while Texans cried for help and pleaded for leaders to guide them through the storm.
246 Texans died from hypothermia, falling through ice and drowning, frozen medical devices, motor vehicle accidents, carbon monoxide poisoning, and, tragically, so much more.
Ted Cruz is nothing but a sick joke.

It will be in legalese, but that's what the response will be. You can't demand of others what you won't do yourself.
