One NAZI Gasbag Got 40 Years to Divide America in Two

Then, the rotten GOP gave him a Presidential Medal of Freedom for a life misspent.

Still, even with all his lying and propaganda, Flushbo deserves a medal all right.

From Vladimir Putin.

Making that clear will help reunite the country.

Reagan got rid of the Fairness Doctrine and Flushbo got free airtime to fill minds with hate for Democrats and, especially, liberal democracy. The culmination of all the hate is the treasonous Orange Scheissnozzle.

Those are honest sentiments in memory of a NAZI gasbag plus the traitor and his henchmen. And while their owners also own the "news media," we must offer better ideas to those who may have heard nothing but the turds' side.

How the right-wing talk radio icon corrupted the Republican Party, spread hate, racism, and lies, and laid the groundwork for Trumpism

BY BOB MOSER
Rolling Stone, FEBRUARY 17, 2021

EXCERPT...

First, a signature move: Belittle the story as partisan hysteria from the lamestream media while sneaking in a big, exonerating lie. “All of a sudden, protesting Congress is being called the end of the world!” Limbaugh sneered, making use of his rested voice. “A bloody coup attempt! Even though the only blood spilled was that of an unarmed Trump supporter.”

SNIP...

Cut to a schlub in a cheap white dress shirt, black tie, and hastily barber-shopped helmet of hair, already wiping sweat and grumbling about the TV lights, planted behind his desk and mic and interrupting the station’s young newscaster, Kathleen Maloney. She’s trying to do her five-minute, top-of-the-hour update — oddly (for 1990) while wearing a mask, because, as she explains, the host had warned her it could be dangerous to let his listeners identify her on TV as a liberal feminist. He was only joking, Limbaugh insists. “You said wear a bag over my head!” Maloney says. Limbaugh keeps threatening to yank her mask off, complimenting her beauty, and interjecting impatiently: “The news just holds up everything here! I’m trying to make the news worthwhile.”

It’s a fitting cold open to a broadcast that was, in those heady early days, all about disruption — and ratings. Limbaugh had blasted into national syndication two years earlier, at age 37, with a talk show that sounded like no talk show before: faster, louder, ruder, and way more opinionated. Also, very quickly, way higher-rated. “Talk shows had always been very polite, very gentlemanly,” says Brian Rosenwald, author of Talk Radio’s America. “Hosts were there to keep things moving along in an evenhanded way. You weren’t supposed to know the host’s politics. It was intentionally irrelevant. Before him, the only successful syndicated radio talker was Larry King, and that was a very different thing. You didn’t know Larry King was a liberal; you didn’t care what he was. It was about callers and guests. And now there’s this. A host who says, ‘I am my own guest,’ takes very few carefully screened-out callers, and tells you what he thinks for three hours.” As Limbaugh would later explain, “I wanted to be the reason people listened. That’s how you pad your pocket.”

It’s hard to convey, so many media eras later, what a phenomenon The Rush Limbaugh Show was. Within a year of the C-SPAN telecast, Limbaugh was beaming out to 530 stations, with 25 million listeners, and hosting a 30-minute syndicated TV show (also with no guests) produced by Roger Ailes, who would go on to launch Fox News in 1996. The pompous, motormouthed, giddily offensive Neanderthal conservative was a national curiosity, profiled on 60 Minutes, plastered on magazine covers (Newsweek: “Is Rush Limbaugh Good for America?”), topping bestseller lists with a book whose title perfectly captured his approach to “news”: The Way Things Ought to Be. His moon-shaped mug smirked over Broadway on its biggest billboard. “People just can’t get enough of him!” gushed Barbara Walters.

ABC and the Rise of Rush Limbaugh

EXCERPT...

In this atmosphere of deregulation, Capital Cities found the perfect time to take over ABC. Not only were all the legal restrictions removed, but by now Casey was head of the CIA, and whatever contacts existed between the CIA and Casey's company (in which Casey held substantial stock) were immeasurably strengthened. Capital Cities soon began buying out ABC stock. The facts of the acquisition remain curious and unconventional. Capital Cities was only one-fourth the size of ABC, and there were much wealthier corporate giants who were salivating over a plum like a television network. But word got out on Wall Street that the Capital Cities takeover bid was "protected" by Warren Buffet, a legendary trader often described as the "Darling of Wall Street." (Until 1995, Buffet was the richest man in America.) With Buffet's help, Capital Cities took over ABC. According to one source, a high-ranking CIA official teased Casey, saying, "I understand Sam Donaldson is working for you now."

Sam Donaldson would not be tormenting Republican presidents for long. By the Bush Presidency, Donaldson was removed from covering the White House and paired with Diane Sawyer in a weekly news magazine that covered political fluff. Brit Hume, a staunch conservative, would take his place, and the same torment that ABC once reserved for Ronald Reagan would now be directed towards Bill Clinton.

The new conservatism at ABC was subtle but apparent. Peter Jennings, noting that the program's "American Agenda" had a liberal slant, stated that the news would pay more attention to conservatives, since their ideas are "more provocative and less predictable on some issues."

During the 1991 Persian Gulf War, Washington Post TV critic Tom Shales noted that of all the networks, ABC was the "friendliest to and least critical of the Bush Administration and its policies." After the war, ABC marketed a video of General Schwartzkopf's famous briefing of the war, entitled "Schwartzkopf: How the War was Won." It sold 80,000 copies. Later, it would market a video on life and times of Richard Nixon.

"In the crucible of the early 1960s, Buckley, Goldwater and Reagan faced a profound moral test. They failed it, spectacularly, and their failure has had lasting consequences. While the conservatism those men fashioned went on to dominate the GOP, the movement has never really found its moral bearings. And much of the dysfunction and weirdness now evident in the GOP primary, and within conservatism generally, can be traced to the original sin that corrupted postwar conservatism at its birth. Conservative radio host Rush Limbaugh’s depravity–newly on display last week when he called a woman who dared to testify in Congress in support of contraception coverage a “slut”–is in fact the destination toward which the movement has been heading all along."

I believe that some of these women were there against their will and were threatened with violence against them or their family members. These were some VERY powerful men. Prince Andrew, trump, that fashion designer in Europe, men whose names we will never know because of all the blankets of security thrown over them.

I never considered the ladies to be so and I'm sorry if my comments were construed in that manner.

How the El Paso Killer Echoed the Incendiary Words of Conservative Media Stars

EXCERPT…

A few days after, Rush Limbaugh issued a grim prognosis to his millions of radio listeners: If the immigrants from Central America weren’t stopped, the United States would lose its identity. “The objective is to dilute and eventually eliminate or erase what is known as the distinct or unique American culture,” Mr. Limbaugh said, adding: “This is why people call this an invasion.”

There is a striking degree of overlap between the words of right-wing media personalities and the language used by the Texas man who confessed to killing 22 people at a Walmart in El Paso this month. In a 2,300-word screed posted on the website 8chan, the killer wrote that he was “simply defending my country from cultural and ethnic replacement brought on by an invasion.”

It remains unclear what, or who, ultimately shaped the views of the white, 21-year-old gunman, or whether he was aware of the media commentary. But his post contains numerous references to “invasion” and cultural “replacement” — ideas that, until recently, were relegated to the fringes of the nationalist right.

An extensive New York Times review of popular right-wing media platforms found hundreds of examples of language, ideas and ideologies that overlapped with the mass killer’s written statement — a shared vocabulary of intolerance that stokes fears centered on immigrants of color. The programs, on television and radio, reach an audience of millions.

The New York Times, August 11, 2019

How Rush Limbaugh went from a college drop-out to the 'doctor of democracy' who had the ear of Republican Presidents and millions of die-hard radio fans

* Rush Limbaugh died on Wednesday after a 12-month battle with lung cancer, his wife Kathryn announced

* He started his radio career in Cape Girardeau, Missouri, his hometown where he got a job aged 16 at the local station that his father co-owned

* He bounced around local stations in the 70s and 80s before going national in New York in 1988

* Limbaugh, a prolific conservative with controversial views, was loathed in NYC so moved to Florida

* That is where he grew his radio show and public image to become a beloved Republican

* President Ronald Reagan wrote to him to call him the 'voice of American conservatism' in 1992

* President George W. Bush also considered him a friend and his relationship with President Donald J. Trump is well documented

* Limbugh married four times but had no children

Cellist Pablo Casals greets first lady Jacqueline Kennedy after a concert given in the White House in November 1961.

Each second we live in a new and unique moment of the universe, a moment that never was before and will never be again.

And what do we teach our children in school? We teach them that two and two makes four, and that Paris is the capital of France.

When will we also teach them what they are? We should say to each of them:

Do you know what you are? You are a marvel. You are unique. In all of the world there is no other child exactly like you. In the millions of years that have passed there has never been another child like you.

And look at your body — what a wonder it is! Your legs, your arms, your cunning fingers, the way you move! You may become a Shakespeare, a Michelangelo, a Beethoven.

You have the capacity for anything. Yes, you are a marvel.

And when you grow up, can you then harm another who is, like you, a marvel?

You must cherish one another. You must work — we all must work — to make this world worthy of its children.

— Pablo Casals

Fascism is the opposite of Liberalism. And Limpbits led the charge to make “Liberal” a dirty word. In the process, he helped divide the United States.

Why hate liberals? Liberals and Democrats believe all are equal under law.

Using Göbbels’ methods and Roger Ailes’ Rolodex, the hate radio made certain the poorly educated White Males “learned” where they fit in things. That means the well armed morons now blame the Other — Democrats — are at fault for their problems, not the oligarchs who run Wall-Street-on-the-Potomac and America into the ground.

Even Peter Yarrow, the real one, wrote me to say he preferred less confrontational rhetoric. At least he stayed true to his pacifist beliefs. I stayed true to my "confrontational" beliefs. A shark biting your leg off is not likely to listen to a verbal argument as to why he should let go.

What an honor! Peter Yarrow, who wrote the original, Puff the Magic Dragon, is an amazing life dedicated to the betterment of humanity through his art. As a Roman Catholic by birth and a Taoist by temperment, I understand Mr. Yarrow's ideals of love and kindness when impacting other human beings, but in today's political reality the gloves must come off: It's a matter of life and death.

An unbroken and continuous line links the bastards from World War II to the corridors of power today. The fascist liars own a network, plus a bunch of hate radio, have done a number on democracy. Their common refrain: One race is superior to another.

As Democrats, we believe all are equal under law and God.

What one wise psychiatrist wrote about our world 70 years ago remains most apropos for today:

“At first glance it seems strange that the attitude of the anti-Semite can be equated with that of the negrophobe. It was my philosophy teacher from the Antilles who reminded me one day: “When you hear someone insulting the Jews pay attention; he is talking about you.” And I believed at the time he was universally right, meaning that I was responsible in my body and my soul for the fate reserved for my brother. Since then, I have understood that what he meant quite simply was the anti-Semite is inevitably a negrophobe.” ― Frantz Fanon, “Black Skin, White Masks”
