15. So what if he was "joking"? The "joke" was offensive.

That does not preclude being a complete asshole for telling such an offensive "joke", nor does it preclude taking responsibility for your stupidity, offering an apology, and not making stupid ass offensive jokes like that in the future.

What I tell my children, is that intentions do matter, but not as much as people say they do. If you kill someone by running them over because you were texting and failed to see them, they are as dead as if you purposely ran them over because you were upset at them. The motive, may have consequences legally (murder v. manslaughter) but again, the result is still the same.

Now, I think that McMaster is lying. about it "just being a joke". He was speaking to peers and absolutely knew that talking about the possibility of
hunting Democrats (who he knows are mostly Black in his state), would get him praise from those peers. He knew he was in "friendly" territory. Would he have made that comment on the floor of the legislature? When making his state of the state address?

He knew what he was doing, he just figured it would stay within the friendly group.

Just be a fucking adult and own up to your shit. If you are sorry you said it, then apologize. If you aren't sorry, then own it and fly your asshole flag. Otherwise you are just an asshole who is also a coward.
