(8,787 posts)I wonder who's calling the shots..Trump or his third tier lawyer..hmmm??...I suspect Garland will respond in the same way he responded to Jordan and McCarthy when they demanded he turn over all investigation files relating to January 6/documents...a polite 'fuck you and the MAGA horse you rode in on"..

https://www.npr.org/sections/thetwo-way/2018/05/02/607638733/doctor-trump-dictated-letter-attesting-to-his-extraordinary-health
In December 2015, Donald Trump's personal physician released a letter describing his patient's health in language that sounded more like it was written by the patient himself than the doctor and it turns out that might be exactly what happened.
"If elected, Mr. Trump, I can state unequivocally, will be the healthiest individual ever elected to the presidency," Dr. Harold Bornstein, a gastroenterologist from Lenox Hospital in New York, wrote at the time.
The letter said that a recent medical exam showed "only positive results" for the then-candidate and that "his physical strength and stamina are extraordinary."

If Trump has a legal move, he can plead guilty or turn over evidence or blame Jared.
Ocelot II
(129,730 posts)and Garland has no involvement in it at this time. If he writes back at all, the letter will probably be something like:
Dear Mr. Rowley:
This matter is currently being handled in its entirety by the Special Counsel, Mr. Jack Smith. Any concerns you or your client may have with respect to it should be directed to Mr. Smith's office.

(80,415 posts)I don't think he has requested meetings with prosecutors before?
Ocelot II
(129,730 posts)to want to hold discussions with prosecutors if indictments seem imminent (and it's even possible that some discussions have already occurred). But this looks like they are trying to do an end run around the Special Counsel to try to negotiate with Garland directly (which would render the Special Counsel appointment pointless, so that's not likely to happen). I think the letter isn't so much a demand for a meeting, which they must know probably won't happen, but - since lawyers don't write to other lawyers in that puerile, combative manner - instead it's a public message to the MAGAts, warning them that an indictment is coming and setting them up for more grifting.
Irish_Dem
(80,415 posts)It is not a legal letter, it is a marketing letter to raise money.
And to stir up anger and hatred. Maybe Trump's violent army in the wings
will start threatening the DOJ and future jury members etc.
And the attorneys let Trump write the letter quite badly, so that the legal
community knows they didn't write it.

(4,741 posts)He only has to pay a massive retainer up front.
Lawyers will represent anyone if they're paid enough for it. They're not stupid, though. Especially not trial (criminal defense) lawyers, who spend their lives dealing with criminals. That's why trial lawyers typically have a policy requiring a retainer, up front, to secure representation. With some criminals, they'll let them put up a house as collateral, but most put down cold, hard cash. Any legit lawyer will demand from a known deadbeat like TFG to pay a cash retainer, up front. And it will start at around $10million. If he refuses to pay, well, thanks for your interest in our business, but we won't represent you without the retainer. Have a nice day.

(23,552 posts)I googled the law firm and the lawyer and they are very much real. I cannot fathom that being real though, i mean, what kind of lawyer would write something like that? How in the world could any lawyer actually think their client's situation will IMPROVE based on a letter like that?

(14,770 posts)Isn't it unethical for a defense attorney to claim "baselessly investigated" when the investigation is still on-going and discovery is yet to be presented?
Also seems illogical to claim "ongoing injustice" when justice is yet to be rendered by a court.
This level of raw political hackery should disqualify this attorney from acting before a court, IMO.

(129,730 posts)and not really meant as a serious request to Garland for a meeting, since they must know that's not likely to happen, at least not in response to that snotty, childish demand. The lawyers have already debased themselves by agreeing to represent TFG in the first place, so they probably figured they couldn't go much lower by writing a letter in TFG's voice for public consumption through TFG's fake Twitter.
