(8,657 posts)Tina Turner - one of rock's great vocalists and most charismatic performers - has died aged 83, her spokesperson has confirmed.
In a statement, they said: "Tina Turner, the 'Queen of Rock'n Roll' has died peacefully today at the age of 83 after a long illness in her home in Kusnacht near Zurich, Switzerland.
"With her, the world loses a music legend and a role model."

(8,657 posts)She was that good.
I saw her in Wembley Stadium in London, many years ago, that woman had energy.
Just feels like the end of an era with her death, with all the real old big stars fading away.
They don't make them like her anymore.

(10,372 posts)I never had the pleasure. I did get to see the Broadway show about her life in January and it made me love her and her music even more.

(60,179 posts)She not only had the strength to go on, she bloomed like a uniquely formed orchid. She used to call Mick Jagger on the phone sometimes before performances, and he used to give her pep talks. Although she used to live just down the road from me, figuratively speaking, I regret that I never saw her.

(6,084 posts)Such an amazing and energetic performer. My housemate saw her live in the Flamingo bar lounge (I think) way back in the 70s, after she left Ike and was literally struggling to survive. She was working the bar lounge, so that would be an open show where anyone could watch and listen while having a drink.
Damn she was powerhouse!

Ms. Turner thank you for the music.

(17,614 posts)They don't make them like that any more - a truly talented and beautiful woman inside and out. I heard an interview with her and she had so many struggles in her life but rose above them all. Didn't she just get a kidney transplant recently and it was her new husband that gave her a kidney? I may be incorrect on the details, but I heard her talk about this in the interview. It may have been with Oprah?
Regardless of the details, I don't think there was anything she sang that I didn't love.

When you watch them together, you know they had such charisma together and such respect for each other.
When Tina was dealing with the race barrier in this country, after her breakup with Ike, Mick welcomed her with opened arms in England and shared venues with her.

(43,307 posts)Tell me lawyer what to do
I think I'm falling in love with you
Defend me from the way I feel
Won't you give me some advice
On how to handle my private life, mm
I'm sure that we can make a deal (yeah)
I confess I'm a fool for men
With a clever mind
But your intellect ain't no match
For this heart of mine (for this heart of mine)
All I want is a little reaction
Just enough to tip the scales
I'm just using my female attraction
On a typical male, on a typical male
Your sense of justice I'll embrace
But your defense don't help my case
I'm deep in trouble with the law
Something about authority
Seems to bring out the bad in me
Hey lawyer, gotta catch me when I fall
Oh, they say that you match your wits
With the best of them
But I know when I'm close you're just
Like the rest of them (like the rest of them)
All I want is a little reaction
Just enough to tip the scales
I'm just using my female attraction
On a typical male, on a typical male
So put your books aside
Loosen off the suit and tie
Gotta open up your heart and let me in
Open up your heart and let me in
All I want is a little reaction
Just enough to tip the scales
I'm just using my female attraction
On a typical male, on a typical male
Ooh, a little reaction
I'm just using my female charm
On a typical male, on a typical male
All I want is a little reaction
Just enough to tip the scales
I'm just using my female attraction
On a typical male, on a typical

As a black woman, I saw her as an inspiration...she was always moving forward, and always on her own notes.
Tina made her own wigs, some of my favorites were the ones that looked like a lion's mane....that was no coincidence, imho.
RIP!

(17,984 posts)This song doesn't seem to have gotten as much attention, but it's a fantastic. When I heard about Tina yesterday, I immediately thought of this song and hanging around my 90's work friends at the time. My brother sent me this song, and when one of them heard it, she went wild. We played it over and over. I would bet she also thought of those times when she heard about Tina yesterday. Hi Michele, wherever you are!
You are loved, Tina! Wow, just look at this incredible woman. This song is fantastic, but when you see her put her body language into, it's just unbeatable. RIP great woman.
