Oprah Winfrey is reportedly being considered to replace Dianne Feinstein should the 89-year-old California senator choose to retire.
A list of names, that includes the talk show host, is being considered, according to the Associated Press.
This comes as Ms Feinsteins office confirmed last week that the longest-serving Democrat in the current US Senate is suffering health complications from a recent case of shingles.
A spokesperson told CNN that Ms Feinstein experienced Ramsay Hunt syndrome and encephalitis as part of the diagnosis.
While the encephalitis resolved itself shortly after she was released from the hospital in March, she continues to have complications from Ramsay Hunt syndrome, the spokesperson said on Thursday.

In this case, I like the idea of appointing someone who is not going to run for the seat.

Gov. Newsom reportedly floated Oprah as a potential replacement for Sen. Dianne Feinstein. It could actually help keep him out of political hot water.

Pointless speculation.

names have the slightest idea how The US Senate actually works? Do they know or care that all of DiFis seniority (i.e. her exceptionally valuable vote for judges) ends with her and that the GOP lies in their teeth when they say they will consider a temp replacement of Dems choosing?

(16,168 posts)The only two words we need to hear about this.
Mitch will not allow us to replace her if she leaves the Senate for any reason.
If he can stop judicial appointments, he will.

(10,943 posts)... we have a couple of GREAT candidates, with experience. I think Oprah might make a good politician, tho... maybe she should start smaller... Representative from where she actually lives?
