In the tv series The Man In the High Tower, wherein the Germans and Japanese prevailed in WWII and divide the USA, all is going swimmingly
.. until Hitler dies. Then it all begins to fall apart.
Just saying.
That was my takeaway from the series.
I believe that no truer concept has ever been written.
Just a meaningless OP. Doesnt imply or mean a thing about anything. Really.

It makes me wonder who has to die?

(29,885 posts)I was working in a crew of maintenance guys, and word arrived from another supervisor that our boss had been in a terrible accident - broken neck, apparently. I heard jaws of life. The bearer of this news was visibly shaken, his voice trailed off and he gazed a thousand-yard stare. At this point Ill mention that the unfortunate accident victim was roundly despised within and without our little cohort. The sort of contempt that causes one to reflexively spit on the ground at the mention of his name. And in this moment I recall rumors of actual nazi affiliation. The most outspoken and curmudgeonly fellow amongst us broke the silence and in that moment my brain started filming about 1,000 frames per second.
From my perspective, I could see almost everyones face. Breaking the silence were the words, well, is he dead? Dick Cheney is envious of this guys sneer. I witnessed it form on the guys face because I was already watching for his reaction, knowing his contempt for our boss was fathomless. As I shifted my gaze across the room, I saw a spontaneous jaw-drop involving at least a dozen guys that couldnt have been choreographed any more seamlessly. I think I was smiling. Maybe giggling in a fit of gallows humor-inspired madness. It was a long time ago and brain in high-speed capture mode & all.
The look on the face of the messenger revealed emotions I couldnt identify. It was like incredulity that anyone could express such hatred mixed with fear from having peered into the abyss. Im sure it was a seminal moment for him as well.

(29,885 posts)Disclosure: I didnt finish the series due to losing interest, which was disappointing, because I like the alternate history genre and I like the writing of Philip K. Dick. The production was too much like a soap opera for my taste.
That aside, i agree with your statement about cults of personality, which end abruptly upon the demise of Dear Leader. When a power void occurs, a maelstrom draws all & sundry into its irretrievable grip. I am reminded of the turmoil unleashed upon the death of Stalin. It makes a compelling argument against autocracy and dictatorship.
Similarly, modern despots and those thwarted in their nefarious tracks by democratic means will create power voids when they croak. Theres really no honor among thieves once el supremo kicks the bucket, and that creates chaos for those who would usurp power. Thats their problem. Its an opportunity for democratic forces to unite and defeat divided fascist factions.
I am also reminded of the peaceful transfer of power upon the death of FDR. In the absence of strong institutions based on democratic principles, such occurrences represent the opening scene of turbulence and upheaval. Again, thats their problem. I hope forces for good can come together and fill those voids when their time comes round.

(25,091 posts)You're not imagining things, Doctor. The shit is getting real for the traitors.

The treasonous moron is about to burst into flames as the world learns he was trading top secret information with our nation's enemies. I hope he takes the every MAGAt and crook with him to the slammer and infamy. What's best, the rats he can't take with him will scatter but will never be able to run far enough to find shadow to hide or rock to crawl under.
