Details on link below.
My summary
Dominion has to get to certain levels of sustainability by 2035 and then 2050 so they are marketing this program.
$0 installation charges to us
$150 bill per month in perpetuity and it is transferable
Dominion approved contractors install
The $150/month includes damage and leak insurance
It also includes replacing panels over the years.
We receive credits for when sun/snow/weather prevents us from producing energy so we will have power.
We will NOT receive payment for overproduction. We will be part of the supply to other houses though.
What do you think?
We currently pay more than $150 each month. 2,600 sq feet. Three humans and a dog.

(183,220 posts)This was a door to door sales type thing but my wife was impressed with the representative.
We may need to take out a tree which is actually on the neighbors land - obviously hed have to agree.
As much as I like to support the little guys Ive learned that sometimes going with the big boys is safer. Id guess that the smaller operations get some of the install business.
Shanti Shanti Shanti

The tree cost will be on us.
Thanks for the insurance tip.

(19,316 posts)Currently going through the process in Minnesota. Upfront it will be $30K, after subsidies $20K. Financed through our credit union it's around $350/mo for a 10 yr term, but if I roll the $10K tax rebate into it I can pay it off in 7.
The panels will cover around $175 of our $200/mo electric bill (heat pump in winter and sump pump is summer up our electricity rate) so we're effectively paying only $175/mo. But once they're paid off, they'll keep making electricity for decades.
In 30 yr, factoring in inflation, they'll generate almost $100K. Since we're only in our early 40's and plan on living here forever, it is a great deal long term.
