They fought and died horrible deaths against communism and fascism to keep our land free.
I watched youtube for hours last night and saw some of the survivors viet nam being interviewed, take the time to youtube viet nam fire fights and watch what our Men went through to fight communism and fascism.
This soldier here says that the movie that most depicts real life battles in viet nam is "We were Soldiers"
.
And Bone spur trump embraces the communist leaders today.

(7,080 posts)my good friend. He was a paratrooper in Vietnam and they parachuted out only to be picked off by the enemy one by one. They all laid in the hot jungle for 3 days until their bodies could be rescued. His dad insisted on an open casket and sat right next to the casket the entire time. It was ghastly. I took a rubbing of his name at The Wall in DC years back. I will never forget him and will never forgive that obscene war.

To help the Military Industrial Complex and the Pentagon.
The people of Vietnam wanted Communism and got.
Our soldiers sacrifices were the for nought, just feeding the War Pigs.
No one died for our Freedoms. Which is shameful.
I don't think our Country has come to grips with what we did.
Iraq was worse, all died for the vanity of the Boy King. War Crime, straight up.

(51,308 posts)I think there are eight women's names on the Vietnam Wall, and there is also a statue memorial for them.
But civilian women in support positions died also. Many thousands served.
As they have in all wars.
I remember reading that almost all the nurses were volunteers, which is noteworthy.
We can honor them all.

(41,634 posts)While I didn't personally know any women who served in Vietnam, it's important to recognize their efforts mainly as essential nurses and medical personnel.
During the years of Vietnam conflict, women were not allowed in combat. However women were essential in the medical capacity as well as office and clerical assistants. I believe that was changing with the first Gulf War, and by the 2nd Gulf War it was common for women to serve in combat.
Our sincere thanks to the men and women who served and sacrificed for this (sometimes) great country!
Happy Memorial Day

(41,634 posts)Russia's belief in the idea of "communism" died a long time ago. I was born in 1951, and in my lifetime there has been no communism there - only forced socialism along with Russian nationalism.
Nowadays it's just an unregulated oligarchy, lurching towards totalitarianism.
We Americans might hate some things that are happening here, but we're so much better off than the Russians that I shudder to think about it.
