(6,263 posts)DON'T STAND A CHANCE AGAINST THE MIGHTY T-54!!!!!!!!!!!!
(It's ONLY 70 year old technology!!)
Maybe Putler will roll out more T-34's prominently displayed during the May Day parade..
Or better yet, he can negotiate with Ukrainian farmers to return some of his property....

(67,864 posts)Im pretty sure any T-80s and T-90s would be scrap metal too, if they had any left.
But as with any tank-to-tank matchup, crew training and morale are the decisive factors. Hell, back when the T-55 was still a first-line tank (at least for Syria and Egypt) the Israelis took them out with some old, upgunned Shermans.
The Ukrainians may be getting tired, but theyll still kick those Russians asses.

(14,612 posts)MBT aren't used in a defensive role like this.
Ukraine will use modern MBT to break through defensive lines rapidly.
Russia will rely on trenches, mines and AT barriers to slow them down and then funnel them into kill zones where they can be destroyed by longer range artillery. And yes, artillery quite easily knocks out modern MBT. Armor is thinnest on top.
I expect a hell of a fight with higher Ukrainian casualties than Russian losses because that's just a fact of military history of a defensive battle over fortifications.
But in the end I expect Ukraine to take back quite a bit of land, possibly 30% of what is currently held by Russia.
Ukraine is hoping to start a stampede of retreating soldiers, breaking their already weak wills.
Russia is hoping to make the counter offensive bloody and costly for Ukraine, weakening the resolve of the West.
Oh and I expect the Russian air force to finally make an appearance in force.
