And yet again the poor and disenfranchised shoulder the burden for the rich and powerful.
Yet again.
So tired of the poor getting screwed in these deals.

(15,359 posts)you use it. Everyone knows this is only a republican shitshow when there is a Democrat President.

(29,078 posts)You're saying Biden wants cuts that Republicans want. On what evidence? When has he ever said that? Both Sides, no difference eh?

(15,359 posts)this game only when there is a Democrat President is embarrassing. Don't count on our sides donors to ever allow them to hold things up for demands that would actually help some of us.
betsuni
(29,078 posts)Why wouldn't donors who support Democratic policies by contributing to Democrats not want to "actually help some of us"? I don't get it.

(98,883 posts)Democratic.
We should have never lost those House seats in NY in 2022
and losing in 2016 because enough people voted third party or didnt vote is unacceptable
In every critical swing state Hillary lost by less than 1%, while Jill Stein received 1% of the vote
That disaster changed the entire dynamics of the SC
Blaming this on President Biden is misguided
Who do you think would get blamed if we defaulted, and people didnt get their social security?
The illustrious press sure wouldnt be congratulating us
The only way to stop what is happening is to win both houses, the Senate, and the WH
There is a good chance that the house magas will not vote for this, and it will be the Democrats that pull this out.
Also, a real possibility that McCarthy may lose his SOH, if one of his crazies decides to call for a new speaker

(12,284 posts)The Republicans held the country hostage. They got paid a ransom and the poor and disenfranchised got fucked yet again.
Yet again the poor are scapegoated as the bad guys and the people paying the price here.

I've read on here that Pres Biden has done the best possible and they were actually Thanking him.. not wagging their finger at him. Which I don't think he deserves.

(12,284 posts)But we were held hostage by the Republicans and the poor have yet again been made the scapegoat and forced to pay the price while defense contractors and the wealthy continue to feed from a neverending trough of money.

(12,284 posts)Is 100% the fault of Republicans.
You miss the point that EVERY DAMN TIME stuff like this happens it's the poor that are demonized and scapegoated and forced to pay a price.
Defense contractors and the wealthy get to continue to feed at a bottomless trough of money.
That is my problem.

(12,284 posts)And work requirements.
As someone familiar homeless vets and homeless people in general and their situations, the paperwork and process is daunting and confusing, especially for people with substance abuse issues and/or mental health issues...which describes a lot of homeless people.

I posted elsewhere in this thread - https://www.democraticunderground.com/?com=view_post&forum=1014&pid=3080101
that people forget that a law was passed under Bill Clinton that changed many of these programs over 25 years ago and included "work requirements", as well as a 5-year limit in cash assistance through TANF.
H.R.3734 - Personal Responsibility and Work Opportunity Reconciliation Act of 1996

My assumption is these were new, on top of existing, requirements.

So no one will know until those details are released. I think what was floated out there was an age change for certain programs. And the elephant in the room that is still being tackled is the Farm Bill, which is up this year, and which is where SNAP (and its line items) get specified.

(1,459 posts)I heard that on TV this morning. McCarthy was saying that it will bring in 5 billion dollars a month.
Im not sure how that will go over with young voters even though they knew it would end eventually.
