The Debt Ceiling Deal Blows Up Republican Biden Narrative

The more Republican MAGA cultists condemn the debt ceiling deal that has been agreed to and shout that McCarthy caved, they undercut their asshole narrative that President Biden is too old to govern and appears senile.

If that were the case, wouldn't the Repukes have been able to take advantage of him?

Instead, Biden got the big pluses on this deal. 2 years, so the debt ceiling debate can't be used during the upcoming election. The permitting included green energy. The work requirement is an empty box. 54 years old instead of 49, but still excludes anyone with dependents, veterans and the homeless. Really a nothing burger, no matter how much it's touted by McCarthy. Biden's defense dept. increase of 3.5% remains part of the deal. All in all, from my perspective, it's really not a lot. It holds spending to 1% a year (which can change in any annual budget if we gain the majority). In the meantime, it makes Biden look like a true moderate. A capable and effective leader. And blows up the narrative that he is incapable of governing.

In short, even though I would have personally rather have had President Biden tell McCarthy and the Maga cultists to go fuck themselves and invoked the 14th amendment, but I can live with this.

to carry it to conclusion. I have seen those interviews where the journalist ask them questions to point out how ridiculous their beliefs are and yet, they just do not connect the dots. For example, at some point they were saying Biden is a shadow president, Trump is really in charge. I saw an interview where the journalist pushes back and ask : If that is the case, do you blame President Trump for the current inflation since he is in charge ? The MAGAT completely short-circuited, mumbled some nonsense and gave up.

that is pulling the strings for Biden. It's similar to their "belief" that TFG was actually still in charge when you asked some MAGA cultists back in 2021. And then, you ask them, then inflation is TFG's fault since he is in charge, they would immediately say no, it's all democrat's fault. None of their beliefs have to make sense. It's always just the democrats fault or the republicans praise. Honestly, I don't think even they believe it themselves. But it's just out there enough that would shut down any "discussions".

They think a serial cheater, twice divorce, bankrupt, con-artist, with a fake university, constant campaign money grabs, is somehow the Christian ideal of a fair, honest, saintly leader. If you can sell MAGA people that, you can sell them anything. And Trump has sold them everything from stupid hats and shirts to worthless digital trading cards. Narrative isn't a conservative voting thing.

Thank you Kevin for bringing your lunch, now watch Joe eat it!

Seems to me, McCarthy and the GOP got crushed and now are in a box. If they don't vote to pass the debt ceiling now it'll be all on them, especially the extreme MAGATS among them. tRump who can't stop his lips from flapping will make lots of noise about the necessity to put the nation into default and that will stick to him like glue. DeSantis will either say nothing or call for the country's default and either scenario will hurt Ronnie Boy. If they vote to pass it, they've been fleeced and that giant hissing sound you hear will be the air coming out of their balloon.

Either way, Dark Brandon and the Democrats win!

I didn't think of that. McCarthy is all about power. Imagine a scenario where he loses the freedom caucus MagaTs but gains moderate Democrat support to stay speaker.

Then you have to wonder what else could be on the agenda? Fixing Social Security, prescription drug prices, who knows. I can totally see a Dark Brandon / McCarthy side bet.

20 to 30 Democrats may just not vote. That would reduce the number of votes McCarthy needs to remain Speaker. If 30 Democrats just "sit out" the vote, McCarthy could win with just 203 votes or so.

Biden looks totally able to govern. Working "across the aisle". That should be his TV commercial. He can get things done. The infrastructure deal and now the debt ceiling. MagaTs won't care but that big batch of reasonable moderates in both parties will. It'll magnify itself exponentially too, if Trump is the nominee.

should be required to watch this year's State of the Union Address, where live, with a national and likely international audience, Biden single-handedly took on the entire Republican Congressional deligation - both House and Senate - and backed them away from touching Social Security. It was a thing of beauty and should forever live on as a tribute to his greatness as our President.

If Biden goes too far appeasing these magat assholes.

I hope my SSI isnt cut and HUD is still funded

If not I lose everything. And If I do I will not be able to survive and if Medicaid is cut I might as well off myself, dont want to suffer or be around when the fascism starts kicking into high gear. And the kicker is other countries do not want disabled people. I have no chance of escaping even if I could afford it and physically get to a border. Passports are 300 bucks, out of the question.

I am in the same boat as millions of other disabled people.

Please Biden dont bargain with my life with monsters and terrorists. Republicans are not friends, colleagues they are toxic evil hateful people. And the sooner you understand that the better.

Saying people need to vote for Democrats makes them touchy, also seen as an excuse.

The powers of the presidency are overestimated (just do an EO!), and the importance of majorities ignored. If a president can't do something or Democrats don't have the votes, it means they didn't want to do it anyway. Both Sides is central to the worldview. Why the sad disappointed posts about poverty, as if neither party cares.

Biden shouldn't have made a few temporary compromises (as often happens in government) guaranteeing the survival of the economy, should've gambled all or nothing (morally pure) on the 14th amendment, they say flippantly. A morally righteous True Progressive president would never compromise just to save the economy!
