countries. If this is true I can't see how he can't go to jail for any less than 10 years. I'm interested in what others here think about this? Is this something we expect from Jack Smith or is it just wishful thinking on my part?

(4,858 posts)...he should be executed. It is a sign of what we've come to that I don't regard this as impossible, or even unlikely. I don't believe anybody would. I might add that I really hope this *isn't* true. I don't want to believe this is possible for any President--even him. I don't want to live in a country in which this could really happen...

(14,966 posts)(or at least the minimum reasonable) degree of justice which they deserve based on their criminal actions?
How can that be anything other than wishful thinking?
Everything, and I mean EVERYTHING, in this country's recent history says that will not happen, no matter what TFG has done which is demonstrable beyond any rational argument. That's just not how the system works, how things shake out in reality.
Now, if you're just asking about ten years specifically, then maybe, but only if he slam-dunk no-questions absolutely deserves life or capital punishment. Then maybe he gets the 10 years in question. But don't bet on it.
Also, the next Repug POTUS will probably pardon him for his federal convictions (if any) anyway.

(5,306 posts)That's a lengthy process, given that trump's going to throw every monkey wrench he can to delay things as long as he can.
The legal minds I've heard in the media say it'll be over year at least before any of this goes to trial, if, in fact, he gets indicted like we all expect.
His only hope is to win the election and then pardon himself. I think that's his plan of last resort, and why he announced so early, not that anyone was surprised about him running for President again.

(11,302 posts)this actually happened. There's been a lot of hinting and suggestion on DU as well. (it's a discussion forum) But, as of tonight (best of my knowledge) - we are still miles away from actual pinning (or even assignment) of the acts suggested ...
So - perhaps not wishful thinking - but certainly still in the realm of speculative.

(28 posts)I've heard this too, from various sources. Jack Smith did subpoena Trump's business records, particularly with regard to Saudi Arabia. MBS, of course, is the guy who gave Kushner $2 bil, and started the LIV Golf Tournaments at Trump golf courses. What did MBS get in return? I hope Jack Smith wants to know, and will be able to tell us soon. This would be espionage, and I thought that was a death penalty offense. Can't imagine the civil war that would break out if Trump were charged and sentenced as he should be.

The CIA sent a top-secret cable to its agents telling them to sharpen up as too many informants were getting killed or turned, The New York Times reported.
The note, which was sent last week to every CIA station around the world, noted how the CIA's counterintelligence mission center had analyzed dozens of cases in which informants had been killed, arrested, or turned in the last few years, The Times said.
The cable had disclosed the exact number of CIA informants killed by foreign powers, The Times said, without elaborating.
The CIA declined to comment.
