Bears repeating: Why I am a Democrat.

Because Democrats have compassion for others.

• When every person
  a. is guaranteed rights, opportunity, and equity,
  b. can make a good living,
  c. is respected,
then all benefit and the nation benefits.
• Government invests in its citizens.
• Labor and innovation create wealth.
• Productivity gains are shared with those who are less blessed than others.
• Government is by the people and for the people.
• The legal system protects rights, especially of minorities.
In short: equality, honor and fairness.

The thugs have no compassion.
They believe that:
• Money and power are concentrated in the hands of a few.
• Business grows by monopoly aggregation and by stifling competition.
• Freedom means no regulation. Nothing more.
• Government enforces "the economic order" (a caste system)
• Workers and voters are kept from uniting, chiefly by a divide and conquer strategy, i.e culture wars.
• Welfare for the rich. The fraud called "Trickle Down" really means "golden showers". (wink, wink)
In short: inequality, arrogance and privilege

or just outrage over imagined/manufactured fears.

In one form or another.

When climbing the ladder of progress, a Dem will turn around and help the others behind him up. A rethug will reach the top, then kick the ladder down.

It brings to mind one of my favorite quotes from Lawrence O'Donnell. I believe this is more than 15 years old (hence there's no mention of the Affordable Care Act) but it's great just the same.

I'm looking for some software to take a "few" years off my image. Found an avatar maker that took 50 years off, but few recognize me from that.

But, you're as old as you think!
I'll stick with the young crowd here on DU!
And with Joe.

This website, although also a bit older, has so much valuable insight about the benefits of good government. Note it contains the original essay from which the "A Day In Your Life" was condensed:

My father's people were Democrats. His father's people were Democrats. Hia grandfather's people were Democrats. Thus, I grew up learning about men like Leland Olds from long before I could vote. How my father was raised in a rural house without electriicity & running water until FDR put Olds in charge of the FPC.

While desecrating both.

They were bad enough before the orange abomination came along, but now they threaten to turn America into a fascist state.
