(10,702 posts)You have a much better chance dying in a car on the way to the beach than being a victim of a mass shooting.
National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), says in 2019, there were approximately 38,800 deaths due to motor vehicle crashes.
In 2019, according to the Gun Violence Archive, there were a total of 417 incidents of mass shootings in the United States. These incidents resulted in 465 deaths and 1,707 injuries. Its important to note that the definition of a mass shooting can vary, and different sources may use different criteria when categorizing such events.

(4,592 posts)It was a nice tropical area along the beach. Wharfs right by there. Small shops, restaurants, too. Really enjoyable. That was around 20 years ago. Maybe less. Then they laid bricks and created a bike path and dressed it up. I'm sure it's gone through more "improvements". But, it sure was nice back then. I'm really sorry to hear about this turn of events.

(23,715 posts)Is there some reason to believe the new law contributed to the shooting? Why make that comment?

(37,370 posts)≈ more people shot. Simple math.

(23,715 posts)is there reason to believe the shooter, regardless of what caused them to decide to kill today, only started to carry a gun in public once they knew they could do it without a permit?
I completely agree that permit-less carry is a horrible idea, I'm just curious how it factored into this once particular shooting in such a way that Ms Watts felt it fervent to point out the new law just took effect.
