Paxton says Trump would have lost Texas if he hadn't blocked 2.5 million ballots applications

https://www.newsweek.com/texas-ag-says-trump-wouldve-lost-state-if-it-hadnt-blocked-mail-ballots-applications-being-1597909

Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton, a Republican, said former President Donald Trump would have lost in Texas in the 2020 election if his office had not successfully blocked counties from mailing out applications for mail-in ballots to all registered voters.

Harris County, home to the city of Houston, wanted to mail out applications for mail-in ballots to its approximately 2.4 million registered voters due to the COVID-19 pandemic. However, the conservative Texas Supreme Court blocked the county from doing so after it faced litigation from Paxton's office.

"If we'd lost Harris County—Trump won by 620,000 votes in Texas. Harris County mail-in ballots that they wanted to send out were 2.5 million, those were all illegal and we were able to stop every one of them," Paxton told former Trump adviser Steve Bannon during the latter's War Room podcast on Friday.

Poor misunderstood Ken Paxton, he made no attempt to suppress the votes himself.
He was just trying to do his job. But that big bully Donald Chump wouldn't let him.

enforcer but since normal Texas election rules require voters to request mail in ballots (and only over 65, physically unable to vote in person, or out of area for voting period are eligible), special exemption was required to send request forms to every registered voter in Texas. This was refused; I thought it was Abbott who was behind it but I guess not.

There were some concessions during the COVID year.
Texas rules normally only allow a physical drop off of the mail in ballot on Election Day at one location in a county. For COVID, voters were allowed to drop their ballots at the designated location from the day they received the ballot up through Election Day.

Early voting was extended to three weeks, in an effort to make voting location less crowded.

Interestingly, the Democratic Governor & Republican Sec of State in Kentucky collaborated on a sweeping revision of normal election code to make it easier to vote during Covid. This included sending vote by mail requests to every registered voter in the state.

The Republicans have done quite a job here of either stopping, you know, "those" people from voting, or else just not counting their votes...now they've put in place some new process where they can just override districts where they don't like how the vote turned out
